MYHere’s my second attempt of making dog food for @mypitbullcooper. I boiled a whole chicken, shredded it, removed the skin and set aside the broth to boil everything else. I blended liver, chicken hearts and sardines and cooked it in coconut oil. Then poured in chicken broth, sweet potato, rice, broccoli and frozen spinach. This is still not a substitute for all his meals because he still eats kibble, but I like giving him some variety. #homemadedogfood

THDoggie food 🐶 🥘 🐾
What I use:
2-3 tbsp coconut oil
7lbs ground turkey
1lb brown rice
2 tbsp butter
2 medium sweet potatoes
1 crown of broccoli or 1- 12oz bag of frozen broccoli
1 bag 12 oz chopped spinach
2 bags 12oz frozen carrots/peas
1/2 can of 100% pumpkin purée
12 scoops of eggshell calciim (per container instructions)
Instructions:
Cook ground turkey in coconut oil on medium heat. Once that’s about cooked, start adding veggies. I like to start with sweet potatoes since they take longest to cook, then broccoli, spinach, carrots/peas, pumpkin purée. Mix every time you add a veggie. Once the rice is cooked (about 40-45 minutes) add that in. It normally takes the ground beef/veggie mix about the same time to cook and be ready for the rice as it does for the rice to cook, so I start them at the same time.
Once the rice is mixed in, cover and cook an additional 10-15 minutes and turn off heat. Let it completely cool before adding the eggshell calcium.
I add more to this as this is a basic mix. some my dogs like, some they don’t. I’ve added apples, blueberries, def beef liver/organs (they love this and it’s great for them), and salmon. When I don’t add salmon, I make sure they get omega3. I also give them a multivitamin.
As for serving size, my vet recommended 2-3% of their body weight per meal (2x a day). My dogs weigh about 5 lbs each (that’s about .15 lbs, so that would be 68g per meal. I round it up to 70g). They were overweight before I started making their food (about 6-7lbs each) and they’ve cut the extra weight, they are energetic and their skin and coat are so much better than before.
I’d like to add that I spend about $38-40 every two weeks on their food which is nothing compared to how much the fresh meal services cost (about $120 for ONE DOG per month).
If you’ve been considering making your doggies food, I think you should give it a try! It takes about an hour to prep and cook and once it’s cool, just freeze and take out a container to thaw as you need it.
Every doggie is different with different needs, so I recommend consulting your vet if you have any questions or concerns regarding your baby!

I prep one month of wet dog food topper for under $10 and Marley goes absolutely INSANE for it 😍
Here’s how you can make it for your pup 👇🏻
1. In a bowl, combine 3/4 cup cooked salmon (I just seasoned it with a bit of cinnamon and turmeric and air fried for 14 min), 1 cup cooked carrots and broccoli, 2 cups cooked rice, 1 boiled egg and 1/4 cup Greek yogurt.
2. Once that’s all mixed really well, scoop 1/3 cup at a time onto a piece of parchment or wax paper. Place another piece of parchment or wax paper on top and slightly press down.
3. Repeat this step to portion out little ‘patties’. Place in the freezer to freeze overnight.
4. Depending on the size of your dog, take one Pattie out of freezer per meal or per day, defrost it in the microwave for 30 seconds then add as a topper with their regular food!
I like to give Marley kibble and add this as a side so he enjoys his meal (:
