When workplaces are: ⚡Psychologically unsafe ⚡Chronically understaffed ⚡Led by toxic management ⚡Built on unrealistic expectations ⚡Designed to protect power over people The problem isn't that you couldn't handle it. The problem is that the environment was unmanageable. And when you tried to cope — when you worked harder, stayed later, apologised more, questioned yourself — the system let you believe it was a you problem. Because if you're blaming yourself, you're not holding them accountable. Here's what actually happened: You were put in an impossible situation and expected to succeed anyway. When you couldn't, you were blamed for the outcome rather than supported through the reality. That's not failure. That's a system protecting itself at your expense. The harm this does: When you internalise workplace dysfunction as personal failure, it doesn't just affect your confidence at work.
