They did not see that coming - one disgusted the other had to walk away 🤣 Right beforehand, I said to my friends how much I avoid taking content like this because of a fear I have of being seen as incompetant in the gym- realising that its a shared fear I went for it anyway. The reaction - worse than what I feared 😬 Do I care though - nope! I think its absolutely hilarious and I cant wait to do it again 🤣 There is something very liberating about knowing that what you are doing feels embarrassing but doing it anyway. This is a reminder to do the thing that you are afraid of - free yourself of the judgement and just go for it! Funny enough, I had already crossed paths with this team at a HYROX PFT back in December before ever stepping through the doors. As the HYROX rep for the Southeast, I helped Ken, the owner, become one of the first HYROX Training Clubs in the region. Even then, I knew something special was brewing. the one cue that will save your sled push most people grab the top of the pole and wonder why they’re dying. the problem is not your fitness. it’s your physics. 1. high hands tilt your torso forward — when your hands are at the top of the pole, your centre of mass shifts forward and over the sled. you lose the ability to load your legs and end up pushing with your upper body instead. that is an exhausting way to move a heavy sled. 2. lower hands change your body angle — dropping your hands brings your hips back and down. now your body is in a position where your glutes and quads can actually fire. you are driving the sled, not falling into it. 3. think push the ground, not the sled — once your hands are lower and your hips are loaded, the cue is simple. drive the ground away from you with every step. the sled moves as a result of that, not because you are muscling it forward with your arms. same weight. same fitness. completely different experience. . . . . #HYROX #HYROXtraining #sledpush #HYROXcoach #functionalfitness

Burpee broad jumps are easily one of the toughest stations in a HYROX race anddddd it’s not just because of the fatigue 😅 there are a lot of rules you need to get right along the way 🤓 In this clip, she makes a couple of really common mistakes: ➡️ Going the wrong direction instead of looping around to the next section ➡️ Forgetting the burpee (this is the big one!)😮‍💨 This happens all the time, especially during changeovers. Whether you’re jumping in mid-set, mid-length, or finishing things off for your partner, people rush in and start with the jump… 🚫 But it always has to start with the burpee.💪🏼 It sounds simple, but in race conditions, it’s one of the easiest ways to pick up penalties or lose time. Your breathing may be one of the reason your wall balls feel harder than they need to It’s pretty simple - Breathe in when you are offloaded. You are upright, not compressed, and it is easier to take a full breath and get more oxygen in. Breathe out when you are loaded with the ball. This is the most compressed position and the hardest time to inhale, so exhaling here makes more sense to me! This is my personal experience, and it works very well for me and definitely has served as a strategy when I’ve gone unbroken! The goal here is rhythm, not pure survival. And it can feel counterintuitive initially.. especially to me who has always practiced weightlifting (where you’re taught not to breathe out at the bottom of a squat). In my experience, dialling in your breathing rhythm: • Helps you stay calm under fatigue • Acts as a mental anchor late in the race • Improves throw accuracy, I find it enhances focus when you’re on pain! • Reduces tension and no-reps Tension does not support performance. This might sound wrong, but HYROX isn’t about being fit Plenty of very fit athletes struggle in HYROX. And some athletes who aren’t “insanely fit” race incredibly well. “’Fit’” is always some kind of subjective definition. In my head it meant to look good, be strong and able to run here and there. And that’s exactly, why my first HYROX races were crucial learning lessons. I’ve trained to be “fit” , but there is a difference. Here’s what actually decides your race ⬇️ 1️⃣ Pacing beats peak fitness. If you don’t know your sustainable pace, you’ll burn energy early and pay for it later - no matter how fit you are. Running is by far the most important part, and not only that, but running tired, stressed and under constant fatigue. 2️⃣ Aerobic control matters more than max output. HYROX rewards athletes who can keep heart rate and breathing under control between runs, stations, and Roxzones. You’ll have to train all the sequences and different heart rate zones to be successful and finish with a good time. 3️⃣ Repeatability > intensity. Anyone can go hard once. HYROX tests whether you can repeat solid efforts eight times in a row without falling apart. So this kind of “’’’”’fitness”’’’’” is more in a direction of strength - endurance and not only being able to move stations or weights around. 4️⃣ Execution under fatigue wins races. Probably by far the most important thing about HYROX is to learn how to move your body under fatigue. It doesn’t make any sense to train “’’’’fresh’’’’” all the time. The biggest wins come after feeling tired and still pushing through your workouts. 5️⃣ Fitness only shows up if it’s trained correctly. Without structure, patience, and the right intensities, even high fitness stays hidden on race day. But it’s one of the easiest stations to lose time on if your technique isn’t dialled. ⠀ Hi, I’m Anthony. I’ve raced HYROX 20+ times. I’ve made all of these mistakes myself. ⠀ Here’s what most people get wrong: The sled pull feels like a strength problem. It’s not. It’s an efficiency problem. When your mechanics break down, you’re fighting the sled instead of moving it. That costs you time and energy you’ll need for the runs. ⠀ 3 mistakes that cost you time: ⠀ Standing too upright You lose your leverage position immediately. Every pull becomes harder than it needs to be. The sled doesn’t move faster when you stand taller. It moves faster when you load your hips and create an angle. ⠀ 2. Rushing the rope Short, fast pulls create no tension. No tension means constant re-adjustment. Constant re-adjustment means wasted energy. Long, controlled strokes move the sled further per pull. Fewer pulls. Less fatigue. ⠀ 3. Not using your bodyweight Most athletes pull with their arms. The athletes who move fastest use their lean. Sit back. Load through your hips. Let your bodyweight do the work. Your upper body is just the connection point. ⠀ What to do instead: · Lean back and load through your hips from the start · Pull long, controlled strokes with full arm extension · Step back with purpose to keep the rope tensioned · Think about moving the sled, not pulling the rope ⠀ If the sled feels heavy, check your position before blaming your strength. ⠀ The fastest athletes here aren’t the strongest.
