VEWhy ripping off your nails is not doing anyone a favour ☝🏻
The natural nail plate isn’t one solid piece, it’s made of layers of tightly packed cells.
We simplify it into 3 layers:
😍 Top layer (dorsal layer)
This is the most compact and dense layer. The cells here are flattened, tightly packed, and have lower lipid content, which is exactly why products adhere best to it after proper prep.
⚠️ Middle layer (intermediate layer)
This is the thickest part of the nail.
The cells are less tightly packed and contain more lipids and moisture, making this layer more flexible but also less ideal for product adhesion.
🚨 Bottom layer (ventral layer)
This layer sits against the nail bed.
It has softer keratin and higher moisture content, and its structure allows it to interact more with the nail bed and underlying tissue.
Now here’s what happens when you rip product off 👇
You don’t just remove gel,
you mechanically pull away layers of keratin cells from the nail plate.
That means: ❌ You remove part (or all) of the dorsal layer
❌ You expose the more flexible layers underneath
❌ Product adhesion becomes significantly worse
❌ The nail becomes thinner, weaker, and more prone to breaking.
In more severe cases, you can even disrupt the ventral layer, increasing sensitivity, risk of onycholysis (lifting from the nail bed), infections, chemical burns and allergic reactions.
