JOIn the quiet town of Lourdes, in 1858, God chose a poor and humble girl — Bernadette Soubirous — to receive a heavenly message.
Near a rocky grotto, Bernadette heard a gentle sound like the wind… and saw a beautiful Lady dressed in white, with a blue sash and a rosary in her hands.
The Lady smiled. Bernadette knelt and prayed the Rosary. As she prayed, the Lady moved the beads of her own rosary. When the prayer ended, the Lady disappeared.
She appeared 18 times, calling the world to repentance, prayer, and conversion of heart. She asked that sinners be prayed for and that people come to the grotto in procession.
During her ecstasies, Bernadette’s face would shine — a sign of heaven’s presence.
One day, the Lady asked Bernadette to dig in the ground. From a muddy spot, a spring of water flowed — a spring that still flows today, bringing healing to countless souls.
When asked her name, the Lady replied:
“I am the Immaculate Conception.”
From obedience came a great sanctuary, and Lourdes became a place of miracles, healing, and hope.
Our Lady taught Bernadette to offer penance and suffering for the conversion of sinners, promising happiness not in this life, but in the next.
As a sign from Heaven, the body of St. Bernadette remains incorrupt to this day.
One time, demonic voices tried to terrify Bernadette. Mother Mary turned her gaze toward them — and they fled. Her gaze alone was powerful.
May this remind us: when we pray the Rosary, Our Lady keeps her gaze upon us.
Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us. Bring us closer to your Son, Jesus Christ. 🙏💙
