KDOn this day March 20th 2001, 25 years ago R&B legend Mr. @officialjonb returns with his 3rd LP on Edmonds/Epic Records titled, “Pleasures U Like.” This LP is what I call a “kicking myself” LP because I missed out on it when it 1st came out🤦🏾♂️. He only released & fully promoted 1 single off the LP (Don’t Talk) but I was not a fan of that song.🤷🏾♂️ Because of my dislike of that song & never hearing the follow-up single (Now That I’m With You), I had no desire 2 check out the LP. Well the jokes on me.🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️ Turned out this happens 2 b his BEST WORK 2 DATE!😳 Not only is it his best work 2 date this LP is what i call the, “in my bag” LP; 😎meaning it was fully & creatively him in his full comfort zone. Not saying that he didn’t have any say on the 1st 2 Lps but this is his lane, his sound, etc. I even feel like I'm in Pasadena, Ca when I hear it & know what Vibezelect Cafe is.😆 Honestly the whole joint hits. Only bad cut on there 2 me is Don’t Talk. Anyway, I was so late 2 this LP😔. I finally got my hands on it around summer of 05. By then i already picked up his 4th LP, which was relatively fresh at the time. When I put that joint on…man I couldn't believe how good it was.😳 Things really get smoking 4 me after track 4. From there on down, its hard 2 pick faves b/c on any day they all could go. I can say right off the bat Inside, Boy Is Not A Man & Lonely Girl got me! The way he approaches music is so genius. The beats could be ehh😬 or simple (i.e. Finer Things, Callin On U) & his approach is ALWAYS spot on! This LP alone taught me how 2 write! But yes, dope Lp. Best in his catalog…& that says a lot. Cheers man 🥃
