👉 Karnataka Job Reservation Bill
If it passes, all private companies, factories, startups, and IT companies in Karnataka, including those in Bengaluru, will have to reserve:
> 75% of non-managerial positions
> 50% of managerial positions
…for native people of Karnataka.
“Native” means
> Someone who has lived in Karnataka for 15+ years AND
> They’re well proficient in the Kannada language
Skills? Education? Nah, who needs this, right? The bill only considers residency and language proficiency.
Due to a lot of backlash, the Government has put the bill on hold for now.
Previously, Haryana tried to implement a similar law, mandating 75% reservation in private sector jobs. The Punjab and Haryana High Court struck it down.
If the Karnataka Job Reservation Bill becomes law, Bengaluru’s IT and startup sectors could seriously collapse.
Imagine the Silicon Valley of India being hit with such a strict law.
Should governments be allowed to enforce such strict regulations based on domicile and language, especially in the private sector Is this the way to boost local employment?

BBBanu Mushtaq has won the prestigious International Booker prize for the short story anthology, Heart Lamp. The stories in Heart Lamp were translated into English by Deepa Bhasthi.
This is the first book written in the Kannada language to win the prestigious prize.
“To every reader who trusted me with their time, thank you for letting my words wander into your heart,” Mushtaq said in her acceptance speech at the award ceremony in London on Tuesday.
