Nine months ago, I left England and moved to the GCC. It has been a journey…some days full of gratitude, other days full of longing. I do miss England at times. It’s home, and that never really leaves you. But one thing I hadn’t fully realised until I stepped away was how heavy the constant negativity can feel. The morning debates about whether doctors deserve fair pay. The background stress of drugs and alcohol, how normalised it has become, and how often it quietly harms the physical and mental health of people we love. The reminders through talk shows and breakfast television that immigrants are not welcome not wanted and “should go home”. It isn’t perfect here, not at all. Every place has its flaws, its frustrations, its compromises. But sometimes what you need most is distance. A pause. A different perspective. And for now, I’m grateful for the respite… and for the opportunity to navigate a new set of trials. #Gcc #saudiarabia #uk #expat
