Claire, a full-time homemaker (played by Julie Bowen), and her husband Phil, a real estate agent (played by Ty Burrell), are raising two teenage daughters and a ten-year-old son. Claire’s father Jay, who is in his sixties (played by Ed O’Neill), has recently married a much younger and beautiful woman, Gloria (played by Sofía Vergara).
Together with Gloria’s ten-year-old son from her previous marriage, they form a new family of three.
Meanwhile, Claire’s brother Mitchell (played by Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and his partner Cameron (played by Eric Stonestreet) have just adopted a baby girl from Vietnam and are excited to become devoted fathers.
Each of the three families faces its own set of challenges and problems. Their frequent interactions sometimes lead to misunderstandings and conflicts. As difficulties continue to arise, how will they resolve their differences and maintain harmony and joy within their extended family?
