MOThe prosthetic eye is not simply made as a ball. It is moulded to fit the socket. This means it should only go in one way round. It certainly looks and feels different if you don’t put it in the correct way round!
Lots of people also still call them ‘glass eyes’ because they used to be made of glass. In some places they still are, but in the UK they’re made of acrylic 🙂

It was truly an honour to be a part of an event as part of Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, to run lectures on “Treatments & Recent Developments in Dry Eye” and “Setting Up a Dry Eye Clinic”. MOElaine Manna has age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and has been treated at Moorfields for over 20 years. #MacularWeek
AMD is a condition which mainly affects people over the age of 50. It causes damage to the light-sensitive layer of cells at the back of your eye (the retina), causing sight loss.
The macular is a small part of your retina that is critical for central vision, so AMD mainly causes loss of central vision. This can cause patients to gradually lose the ability to recognise people’s faces.
As well as treating her sight condition, doctors at Moorfields encouraged Elaine to share her experience with other patients to help them cope with AMD. 🤝
📣 She began telling her story at patient engagement meetings and ended up sharing her experience with experts Google’s Deep Mind Health. Her talk was even livestreamed on YouTube!
Elaine is a big supporter of the charity, having done a wing walk, skydive and zipline to give back. Thank you Elaine.

Today my son accompanied me on our first Charity run😆 walk more like🥳We are raising awareness for sight loss and the importance of research so we can keep saving sight!
We had the best time. Thank you to @moorfields_eye_charity ☕️🍎🍌🧁for taking such good care of us with tons of refreshment and of course we were thankful for the sun☀️☀️☀️

MIToday Minnie has had her baselining tests at Moorfields for the Natural History Study!
Kim and Marc who were running the tests introduced themselves and then introduced Minnie to the tests they were going to run.
The pink Octopus was wearing the special hat with the electrodes on it that measure the brain activity.
Minnie had to sit in a special seat and wear the hat. Marc injected some gel into the electrodes at the back and hooked up the wires to the machine.
Minnie had to watch a programme of her choice (she picked #CocoMelon) and press the buttons on the games handset when she heard coins jingle.
The screen flashed black and white intermittently and Minnie had to sit very still.
She had one eye patched then the other for 3 games each and won a gold pirate coin for each game so 6 coins in all.
She then got to trade her coins for prizes.
Minnie picked a hot pink spikey light up ball, a pirate duck and a springy orange monster. She did really well with the test.
We also completed a food questionnaire which will compliment the bloods that were taken last time Minnie visited.
It's a really good feeling to know that CRB1 is being researched and we are playing a part in that!
Not only did Minnie have these tests, she then also had an eye test with Dr Ana herself and it was lovely catching up with her!
After we headed to Kings Cross station to the Platform 9 3/4s Harry Potter shop where the kids both got wands!!
And then to Hamley's on Regent Street via Piccadilly Circus!
Home now washing the gel out of Minnie's hair and off to bed!!

MEWe are so proud to hear from our client, Moorfields Eye Charity that the film we created for them has had such a great response from their supporters, colleagues and wider community. We love inspiring positive change for such a worthy cause!
@moorfields_eye_charity asked us to create a film to show the transformative impact of Oriel - a joint initiative to create a new centre for advancing eye health, focusing on the critical role of philanthropy in creating this global landmark.
Exec Producer, Jodi Summer Williams and Producer / Director Sophie Nielsen wanted to bring out the human element to this story, so spent time with Khamani, Chris, and Elaine who all receive treatment at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, to understand what a new medical and research facility like Oriel would mean to them, and future patients.
