THWoah! 10 years ago today the last episode of #MythBusters aired on #DiscoveryChannel. People tell me every day how the show changed their lives for the better. It certainly changed mine. I’ll forever be grateful to make nearly 300 hours of television with an amazing reality science production crew, as well the best co-hosts anyone could ask for. It wasn’t always easy, but we put our hearts into it every day, and we made something worthwhile. What a gift.

1. In MythBusters episode “Traffic Tricks,” the team tested the idea that short trips make flying pointless—and they set up a real race.
2. The route was about 380 miles (San Francisco → Los Angeles)—a distance people THINK planes should dominate.
3. While one team flew, the others drove nonstop—but the plane traveler got hit with REAL-LIFE delays: early airport arrival, TSA, boarding, waiting, baggage claim, then renting a car. 
4. Those hidden time killers stacked up so badly that the driving team stayed competitive—and in many scenarios, driving actually wins under ~400 miles (≈4–6 hours).
5. Final verdict: PLAUSIBLE — not always, but for shorter trips, the “faster” airplane loses because of everything AROUND the flight, not the flight itself

EXIn MythBusters, the team tested whether a ball rolling down a curved path could beat one going straight down a ramp. Even though the straight ramp looks like the shortest distance, the curved track actually won the race. ⚙️
The reason comes down to physics. The curved path drops more steeply at the start, so the ball gains speed much faster early on. Even though it travels a longer distance overall, that early acceleration gives it a higher average speed. 🧠
This concept is known as the brachistochrone problem, and it shows that the fastest route between two points is not always a straight line. The experiment became a great visual example of how intuition can be wrong when it comes to motion and speed. 🔬
