This was one of the busiest sitting days in Parliament, when Australia’s long-awaited environmental law reforms finally passed the lower house. But the reforms are not good enough. The bill still has to pass the Senate, so we still have a chance to demand stronger, science-based laws that actually protect nature and communities. Here’s three things we covered in our session: 1. We asked what it would take to get the public on side with @energygovuk's agenda. We heard that the Warm Homes Plan has already reduced energy bills for nearly three million people and that this ‘delivery’ is vital to communicating the Government’s vision to taxpayers. 2. Signals are clear that large‑scale nuclear is a priority. While shifting toward new technologies like SMRs, the Department is committing to large plants and projects. The Secretary of State also suggested a national ‘nuclear roadmap’ may soon be developed for the first time by this Government 3. We asked about the UK’s reliance on China for green technology and what that might mean for our long‑term energy security. The Minister told us that the failures of previous Governments mean that the UK is not yet in a position to rely on British tech, as higher costs would be passed onto consumers. The focus has had to be on mitigating the risks of Chinese technology in supply chains, while continuing to build up the UK’s own capabilities. #EnergyTransition #NetZero #CleanEnergy #Energy
