MATo new chapters…
Two years ago, right around this time, I was on top of the world. I had built a side hustle as a content creator over 50 and I took a big leap of faith and quit my safe and secure corporate job to try to do this full-time. To design a life and a job description by design. Just for me.
I felt unstoppable.
A few weeks later, I realized I wasn’t. The news that my 13 year relationship was coming to an abrupt end was an upheaval in my life that I was not prepared for. At a time when I was trying to be the most focused on myself and my work, I was a walking zombie, trying to process all of my feelings. It was paralyzing for a while, but like everything else, I got through it.
Here I am two years later, and this morning I picked up the keys to my new apartment. My adorable, single at 53, apartment. I’m going to be moving out of a home that I shared with someone for six years, and into a space that’s mine and mine alone. To do with what I want, to decorate with things I love, to fill with the people who bring me joy. No one weighing in with their opinions, no negotiations, no compromises. A space just for me.
I’m reminded of my 25-year-old self, who got her own place after a big break up and started a new chapter that would change her life forever. In the timeline of my existence, I look back on that particular moment and recognize how pivotal it was in changing the trajectory of my life. I was starting all over. I filled my place with secondhand finds— some of those things I still have in my home today— and I built a life for myself, thousands of miles from home. When I could’ve easily turned around and moved back in with my parents, I chose me. It would be the first of many of those “selfish“ decisions I would make in my almost 54 year-old life.
So, my 25-year-old me and my 53-year-old me will be packing up my belongings and moving into my new space in a few weeks. And I will make space for both of us in a new apartment, and start writing a new chapter .
Or maybe it’ll just be a whole new fuckin’ book.
I feel unstoppable.♥️
