Starting during the holiday season and continuing into the new year, #OurCouncil pulled together a donation to the @hawaiifoodbank. Today, Council Chair Tommy Waters and Councilmember Radiant Cordero delivered that donation to the foodbank’s drop-off site in Mapunapuna. Bus fares will be going up on July 1, which is incredibly disappointing. Thank you to everyone who raised their voice, shared their stories, and tried to explain how this would hurt so many families are just trying to get to work, to school, or to their appointments. Who is this fare increase going to hurt? - 60% of bus riders make less than $50,000. - 20% of bus riders make less than $20,000. - Over half of bus riders don’t have a car of their own, and have no other choice of how to get around our island. Monthly fares will go up by $10/month - it’s over the course of the year, that’s $120. For a family of two parents and two kids, that’s $360 more out of their pockets that they will be paying one ride at a time. Even though the fares were increased by #OurCouncil with today’s vote, I’m still going to keep on fighting for things that will help those who need it most: transportation that we can afford, housing for local families (especially renters), and supporting the small businesses that let workers on this island get ahead and stay ahead.

My staff and I were proud to attend all six events: 🌳 Moanalua Community Park 🌳 Ala Puʻumalu Community Park 🌳 Kalākaua District Park 🌳 ʻAiea District Park 🌳 Hālawa District Park 🌳 Salt Lake District Park I had an absolute blast spending time in our community and watching the talent and creativity of our youth shine.🪩✨ After two months of hard work and preparation, it was heartwarming to see parents and families come together to cheer on their keiki and celebrate as one ʻohana. 🎉 Mahalo to the Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR, @honolulu_parks) for continuing to host this incredible program for our keiki. 🙏 A huge mahalo to the amazing DPR staff and volunteers who are the backbone of Summer Fun and the reason it all runs so smoothly and safely. Mahalo to the parents and families who continue to support our city programs. Today the City Council voted on Bill 60, which would give HART the authority to begin planning rail extensions beyond the minimum segment already approved. I voted NO because this bill puts expansion ahead of accountability. We committed to finishing the current segment within budget, yet costs have already ballooned to nearly $10 billion. Taxpayers and small businesses have carried the burden through years of road closures, rising costs, and disruptions. Before we plan more extensions, we need to finish what we promised. We need to complete the Skyline we committed to, evaluate real ridership data, and ensure the system delivers on its goals. Only then can we have an honest conversation about expansion. Mahalo to @honolulu_parks, starting Monday, April 6, the Salt Lake Municipal Parking Lot at Howard Shima Likini Street Mini Park will be temporarily closed for much-needed improvements. Upgrades include new paving, improved signage, and upgraded 4G-enabled parking meters. This lot, alongside the park, provides thousands of residents with off-street parking and serves as a vital gathering space. That’s why I prioritized $277,00 in funding in the FY2026 budget to support these long-overdue improvements and ensure this space remains safe, accessible, and welcoming for all. Construction is expected to last about a month, with reopening anticipated in early May. Street parking will be along Likini Street, but the park itself will stay open.
