When a runner can’t control pronation, the foot will compensate because pronation is a necessity during mid stance of gait. In some cases you can have pain on the inside of the ankle or even outside of ankle depending how the body compensates Over pronation is really just eversion of the foot, not true pronation. Over time this can even cause a bunion Over pronation doesn’t mean you’re going to have foot or ankle pain but it can contribute. If you are having pain, I recommend going through the Foot and Ankle Rehab Program for running specific rehab exercises to improve your biomechanics If you’re in Richmond, Virginia, I’d love to work with you in person through a gait analysis and full body assessment with @gritphysicaltherapy

Pronation & Supination Supination and pronation are the two primary rotational movements of the forearm. Supination turns the palm upward, while pronation turns the palm downward. The proximal and distal radioulnar joints, along with the interosseous membrane, provide the anatomical foundation for these movements. In supination, the radius and ulna lie parallel, whereas in pronation, the radius crosses over the ulna. Muscles driving these actions include the biceps brachii and supinator for supination, and pronator teres and pronator quadratus for pronation. Together, these movements are essential for functional tasks like turning a doorknob, using tools, or typing on a keyboard. #physiotherapy #muscles #exercise #anatomy #workout

The tibialis posterior is the primary driver of active ankle supination, which also makes it one of the key muscles responsible for decelerating pronation. A lot of people struggle with this. They either lack the strength or the control needed to manage pronation effectively. In this video, I’m highlighting the importance of a strong tibialis posterior and demonstrating one of my favorite dynamic exercises to train it: resisted ankle supination. Toproll in 10 Seconds ⚠️ Disclaimer: This is not the only “correct” way. I’m sharing working patterns used by strong toprollers. Adjust everything to your own hand and style. ⸻ 1. Classic Toproll Elbow on the edge of the pad. Raise back pressure → drag with radial and back → hit with pronation → go to the side. The most stable and universal option. ⸻ 2. Kalinichenko Style Elbow on the edge of the pad. Load pronation to the maximum → immediately go sideways. Setup and control are done with the body while moving. Works best with strong pronation and an explosive start. ⸻ 3. Gasparini Style Elbow closer to the center of the pad. At the start, drive the elbow forward → take the top position → drag with the back → go sideways. Clean technique based on height and hand control. ⸻ Summary Toproll is not one single pattern.
