✨Want the quick debrief of how being a psychologist has changed how I do things as a Mom? Here it is and it is NOT what you think. 🌿Lots of these parenting tools I suggest NOT engaging in are controversial or shocking to parents when I tell them. But trust me, just because it might be how you always thought it should be done, doesn’t mean it won’t work to do it another way. 🌿We are here to break cycles, find a parenting approach that works for not just your children but also for you too! And lots of the tradition tactics don’t feel as good as a parent, but we just aren’t taught another way to do them. 🌿If you are doing these, please don’t feel like you’ve failed as a parent or are doing it “wrong”. Shaking things up is always a good thing, and it’s never too late to change your parenting style! 👉🏾I’m so curious to hear your response! 👩🏽‍⚕️Disclaimer: any information is for educational purposes only, and is not therapy. #parentingtips #dailyparenting #parentinglife #parenting101 #parentinghacks #positiveparenting #parentinggoals #mindfulparenting #parentingskills #parentingcoach #parentingproblems #parentingsupport #parentingjourney #parentingtip #respectfulparenting #parentregulation #momcalm #regulatedparenting #momstruggles #IndependentPlay #Resilience #MomTruth #MomLife #Mommylifestyle #responsiveparenting #ParentLikeAPro #momssupportingmoms #mominfluencer #MomTruths #momlife

Hi, I’m Siggie Cohen from @dr.siggie and I help parents feel more empowered and less guilty in their parenting journey.     When you tell your child: “Go to your room and think about what you did!” what is it that you’re feeling?     Frustration? Anger?     Of course! And it’s perfectly ok for you to feel that way.    But anger and frustration are not effective parenting tools. They lead you to react impulsively and use tactics like shame and guilt.     The truth is, your child is not going to go to their room and self-reflect on their own, thinking about what they could have done or said differently.    Instead, your child will spend their time alone feeling blamed… and mostly, feeling angry with you.     Try this instead:     ➡️➡️ “What just happened - not ok at all. We both need to think about this.   We’re going to take a break from each other right now. When we are back together, I will tell you what I thought about what happened and you will tell me what you thought.   And together, we will decide what to do better, next time.“ ⬅️⬅️    Notice that you’re shifting the tone from, “Let’s talk about what you did.” (which is blame) to “Let’s talk about what happened.” (No blame)     Here’s what else you’re accomplishing:   ✅ You’re involving your child in the problem solving. After all, they can’t only be the problem… they must be part of the solution as well.   ✅ You’re modeling collaboration and working through conflict in an emotionally regulated, responsive way.   ✅ You’re encouraging cooperation by not using blame, shame or judgement.   ✅ You’re empowering your child to self-reflect on their own behavior… that’s big!     Is this something you can see yourself trying?     Follow @dr.siggie for more practical parenting tips. . . . . #positiveparentingtips #positiveparenting #mindfulparenting #resilientkids #emotionalintelligence #emotionalintelligencecoach #momssupportingmoms #momsupport #dadsupport #parentingtips #parentinglife #parentingjourney #momlife #dadlife #parentingishard #parentinginapandemic #motherhoodunplugged #motherhoodrising #talkaboutfeelings #momstruggle #dadstrong #parentingc

There’s something different about watching your daughter’s mind finally slow down enough to breathe. The constant fidgeting, the zoning out mid-sentence, the emotions that hit like a storm - all of it started to settle. Her focus came back. Her calm came back. She came back. I didn’t realize how much weight l’d been carrying just trying to keep up with her until this started working. And now, bedtime doesn’t feel like a battle, mornings aren’t chaos, and she actually sleeps through the night. I’m about to blow your mind with this one!🤯 Before we dive in, follow @mommyandmishti for child psychology and positive parenting tools 🧠 If your child loves to sit on your lap, it’s not just because they want to be close or feel comforted in stressful moments.❌ Many children express their deepest love language through physical touch.💁🏻‍♀️ According to The 5 Love Languages of Children, this is how they both feel loved and show love back.✅ 🙌🏻But there’s more beneath the surface. When your child chooses your lap even during playtime, storytime, or quiet moments, they’re communicating something powerful.🧠 Science shows that physical closeness helps regulate their nervous system. Your warmth, heartbeat, and steady breathing actually help calm their body and mind, even when they’re not upset. 🫶🏻💕 This creates a sense of safety and security that supports their emotional well-being and confidence.🙌🏻 So when your child climbs into your lap, they’re saying: 🥹“I feel safe with you.” 🥹“I want to be close to the person who makes me feel secure.” 🤩“This is my safe place to explore and grow.” ✅As a PARENT, recognizing this message can change how you respond.🔥 Instead of seeing it as clinginess or interruption, you can see it as a chance to deepen your connection and support their emotional health.🫶🏻 ✅Here’s how you can use this powerful message: 1️⃣ Welcome the closeness. Put aside distractions and be fully present in those moments. 2️⃣ Use lap time to bond. Talk, read, or just breathe together. This strengthens their sense of security. 3️⃣ Know that this builds their emotional resilience. Feeling safe in your presence teaches them they can face the world with confidence. 4️⃣ Remember, it’s not about length of time, but quality of connection. Even brief moments of closeness can have lasting impact. If your child doesn’t often want to sit on your lap, don’t worry, they may have a different love language that’s just as meaningful.🔥 Does you child like to sit on your lap?🥹

Reposting with permission from @theparentalpsychologist because this aligns so deeply with our work. We know it doesn’t always go perfectly. We’re human after all. But for children with neurodiversity, the core message and principals of co-regulation remain powerful and of paramount importance. Caption below shared with permission from @theparentalpsychologist . This is co-regulation in action. 💛 When a child is overwhelmed, by sadness, fear, or just missing someone they love, their nervous system goes into alarm mode. In this moment, the dad doesn’t rush to fix it. He doesn’t distract or dismiss. He stays. He connects, he comforts, he co-regulates. By saying “I miss her too,” he mirrors and validates the feeling. By offering a hug, he meets the need for connection. By suggesting the bunny, he adds a tool for soothing. And only after the nervous system settles, he gently invites the next step, bath time. And the child says yes. Not because he was told to. But because he felt safe enough to move forward. This is the power of a regulated adult supporting a dysregulated child. This is nervous system safety. This is co-regulation. ❤️ Like if you found this heartwarming. 📌 Save for a reminder of the importance of co-regulation. 🫂 Follow @theparentalpsychologist for more information about parenting, co-regulation, and nervous system regulation. #NeurodiversityAffirmingParenting #CoregulationMatters #ConnectedParenting #NeurodivergentFamilies #RegulationBeforeEducation #GentleNeurodiverseParenting #CoRegulateToRelate #ParentingTheNeurodivergentWay #NeuroAffirmingCare #ParentingWithConnection

The goal isn’t a “well-behaved” kid—it’s a child who learns how to move emotions through their body instead of suppressing them. That doesn’t happen when we yell, threaten, or punish. It happens when we stay regulated enough to show them how. But here’s the hard part: you can’t teach what you don’t practice yourself. If you’re suppressing your emotions until they explode, your child learns to do the same. That’s why I created the F R E E Rage-Free Parenting Starter Guide. You’ll start with a quick quiz to uncover the root of your reactivity, so you finally understand why you spiral & what exactly needs to shift. Then I’ll send you a proven 3-step method to interrupt rage in real time, reset your body, and respond in ways that build trust and teach your kids how to regulate too. Because the real win isn’t compliance. It’s raising emotionally mature adults. Comment “GUIDE” and I’ll send it today. #ragefreeparenting #disciplinewithoutdamage #respectfulparenting #calmnotchaos #emotionalregulation #cyclebreaker #gentleparenting #consciousparenting

SAVE AND SHARE IF YOU FIND THIS HELPFUL Setting boundaries doesn’t make you a “mean parent.” It makes you a safe one.   Permissive parenting often comes from love-we want to keep the peace, avoid meltdowns, or soften the “no.” But when limits shift with every protest, kids feel less secure, not more. I see many parents overextend gentle parenting to become permissive and this can lead to more struggle.   Firm boundaries aren’t about control, they’re about predictability. They say: “You can be upset, and I’m still here—and the rule still stands.” ✔️ Predictability builds trust ✔️ Consistency builds safety ✔️ Boundaries build emotional regulation   If you find yourself giving in to “just five more minutes,” or bribing with “one more cookie,” you’re not failing, you’re learning. Firm and kind is a skill.   If you’re feeling overwhelmed and want more guidance, I’ve created courses that have already helped thousands of parents—covering everything from newborn care and infant feeding to toddler behavior, sleep, and tantrums. Comment “COURSE SALE” to get the biggest discount of the year (sale ends November 24th at 11:59 ET) , and follow @pedsdoctalk for practical parenting tools that actually work.   Which situation tests your consistency the most-bedtime, meals, or transitions?
