I love this profession with everything in me....but I refuse to be what it has become.
Not in 2026. Not after 25+ years of practice.
Physical Therapy used to be heart centered.
Now it is a job where you are expected to risk your body and your mental health......for a clinic or hospital that would replace you in a second.
We are caring for 7-21 patients per day, depending on your specialty, all while charting is getting more extensive.
We are staying at least an hour late to finishbup our charting....time which we are not paid for.
We are losing financial ground daily.....our salaries aren't keeping up with inflation and for many of us, we only make money of we see patients. And unlike our friends in corporations, there are no bonuses or stock options.
And the part that hurts the most?
We still love what we do....it just isn't loving us back.
The system wants compliance, not critical thinkers.
Martyrs, not professionals.
Burnout, not boundaries
I won't recommend this profession to anyone until our compensation improves.....because the profession shouldn't cost you your sanity or physical health.
And if you're a physical therapist reading this, feeling that pit in your stomach......just know this:
🌟 There are options outside of the clinic and the hospital
🌟 There are ways to build income that won't break you.
🌟 There are physical therapists and other healthcare professionals rebuilding their lives and thriving
