LOHOW I WISH - Pink Floyd performing the classic “Wish You Were Here” in 2005. “The Dark Side Of The Moon” which raised Pink Floyd to the very top of popularity and printed new pages in the history of rock music, made a difficult task before the band by destroying their ambitions that they would ever be able to create something similar to it. However, on September 12, 1975, “Wish You Were Here” came out, a powerful album worthy of its predecessor, which until today is one of their authentic masterpieces, with 15 million copies sold and also one of the most successful. It is inspired by the tragic fate of the founder of Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett, the alienation that ruled among the members of the band during that period, and the lack of morality in the music industry, so it is not surprising that Gilmour and Wright, for its emotions and complexity, cited “Wish You Were Here” as their favorite album.
This song is about the detached feeling most people go through life with. It is a commentary on how people cope with the world by withdrawing physically, mentally, or emotionally. In the commentary of The Wall, Roger Waters states that the inspiration was Pink Floyd founding member Syd Barrett and his ordeal with schizophrenia.
This was a rare case of the Pink Floyd primary songwriters Roger Waters and David Gilmour mutually collaborating on a song - they rarely wrote together. Gilmour had the opening riff written and was playing it in the studio at a fast pace when Roger Waters heard it and asked him to play it slower. The song built from there, with the pair writing the music for the chorus and verses together, and Waters adding the lyrics. Enjoy

THWhat did Pink Floyd accomplish with “On The Run”?
“On the Run” is the moment Pink Floyd proved that electronic music didn’t have to be cold, mechanical, or detached. It could be psychological. It could be cinematic. It could feel like panic tightening around your throat. This wasn’t a band experimenting for effect. This was a band building an entirely new emotional language with machines. The track is built almost entirely around the EMS Synthi AKS, with its portable keyboard/sequencer that Roger Waters and David Gilmour used to program the iconic oscillating pattern. They manipulated the Synthi’s built-in sequencer, fed it through filters, modulated the pulse, and created a rhythm that isn’t quite a beat, it’s more like a heartbeat under stress. They doubled it with textures from the EMS VCS3, bending tone into something that sounded alive, unstable, and constantly accelerating.
“On the Run” is electronic music with a pulse, a spine, and a sense of dread that still feels contemporary fifty years later.
