Yes it is very hard actually 🙃 I got an influx of followers so I also wanted to use this reel to introduce myself! My name is Naia Butler-Craig and I am currently pursuing my PhD in aerospace engineering with a focus in electric/plasma propulsion. Electric thrusters are essentially rockets that accelerate an ionized gas to produce thrust. My thesis work is centered around using a laser diagnostic called laser Thomson scattering to investigate plasma behavior in Hall effect thrusters to better understand how certain components of it erode over time. I’m a mental health and STEAM diversity advocate and I use this page to share the ups and downs of my academic and career journey in hopes of inspiring the next generation, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, to pursue careers in space. I try to do this while being honest and authentic about the challenges of doing so and the shortcomings of the industry and how it can better foster an environment of true diversity and inclusivity. Intersectionality is extremely important to me as a neurodivergent, first-gen, Black woman and I do my best to show up as ALL of me on this platform. And unapologetically so. I’d like to be an example that you don’t have to fit the mold to succeed in these spaces.
