I’ve never ran a mile in the 7 mins for more than 3 miles before which was AMAZING!! felt so speedy miles 1-18 until I had a massive shock in my back and nonstop cramps in every single part of my leg. was in the pain cave mile 19 and for the rest of the race but tried to push through the pain and with help of the crowds energy and a few orange slices, we finished strong with an official chip time of 3:54 🌟 #marathon #runvlog #running #runner #runnergirl #marathontraining #runwithme #raceday #californiainternationalmarathon #cim #runningcommunity #runnerscommunity

The infamous negative split… CIM 2025: 1st half 69:27 (3:17 mins/km) 2nd half 68:25 (3:15 mins/km) I’ve always been a fan of “banking time”. If you don’t bin yourself… are you doing a marathon correctly? Go out hot and hold on? I’ve run 19 marathons now. I’ve negative split 3 times. Copenhagen 2024 (2:24 PB), Berlin 2024 (2:19 PB) & CIM 2025 (2:17 PB). So maybe running within yourself for the first half is the way to go. Admittedly the first half of CIM is far more tricky than the second. The undulating hills kill your quads. Keeping something in the tank for the last 8 miles which are pancake flat did mean I flew past a lot of blokes who looked like they were battling some proper demons. However, honestly every time I’ve negative split I didn’t realise what I was capable of. On Sunday I just kept saying to myself, “one good day. All you need is one good day”. The marathon is so unforgiving. So much can go wrong. If you’re having a good day, capitalise on it because you never know if you’ll get another chance. When I hit 20 miles I knew I was on for something decent. So I decided to pick up the pace. I dropped a 32:10 last 10k and a 3:08 last km. Did I have more to give on Sunday? Hindsight is 20:20 and the marathon is such a fine balance. If I’d pushed that extra 0.1% I could have blown up and be sitting here with a 2:30. I’m happy but for sure HUNGRY FOR MORE. 📸 @raff_5hussey bringing the OG alphafly’s out to Cali was worth it! RICE & REPEAT ™️ - Hugo 2025.

Shorten your stride when fatigue hits Increase your cadence and keep each step quick and snappy 2. Use your arms Whether you’re picking it up or just trying to hold on, your arms control your pace. DRIVE 3. Lean slightly forward & engage your core Keep your centre of gravity in front of you, not sitting back and slowing you down. 4. Stay engaged Lock in and race with intention, it’s not meant to feel comfortable ( try to not tense up though) 5. Mind gives up before your body Think about the work you’ve put in in the training but also the race so far, so go make yourself proud & don’t throw that away! 6. Smile & use the support to motivate you (Even if they’re not shouting your name!) Save this for race day & you’ll thank me later!! **chip time 33.40! **
