O Modelo Atômico de Rutherford revolucionou a forma como entendemos a estrutura da matéria 🔬✨ O experimento realizado por Ernest Rutherford, conhecido como experimento da lâmina de ouro, consistiu no bombardeamento de uma finíssima folha de ouro com partículas alfa, que possuem carga positiva. Ao redor da lâmina foi colocada uma tela fluorescente capaz de detectar o caminho dessas partículas após o contato com o material. Esperava-se, com base no modelo atômico da época, que as partículas atravessassem a lâmina praticamente sem sofrer desvios significativos. No entanto, observou-se que, embora a maioria das partículas realmente atravessasse a lâmina, algumas sofriam pequenos desvios e uma quantidade muito pequena chegava a ricochetear, retornando quase na direção de origem. A partir dessas observações, Rutherford concluiu que o átomo é constituído majoritariamente por espaço vazio e que possui um núcleo extremamente pequeno, denso e com carga positiva, onde se concentra quase toda a sua massa. In 1911, Ernest Rutherford conducted the Gold Foil Experiment (or Geiger-Marsden experiment) to test the prevailing "plum pudding" model, which suggested atoms were spheres of diffuse positive charge with embedded electrons. By bombarding an ultra-thin sheet of gold foil with positively charged alpha particles, Rutherford observed that while most particles passed straight through, a small fraction (about 1 in 8,000) was deflected at large angles, and some even bounced directly back.
