OOIn classical physics, if a ball does not have enough energy to pass over a hill, it will stop in front of it.
However, at the level of extremely small particles like electrons, this rule does not always apply.
Because particles also behave like waves (according to the concept of Wave–Particle Duality), there is a small probability that part of the particle’s “wave” appears on the other side of a barrier.
This means the particle can seemingly pass through a wall without breaking it.

PRAlong the southern edge of the Dead Sea in Jordan, shallow evaporation ponds can turn a striking pink. The color usually comes from salt tolerant microorganisms and algae that flourish in extremely saline water, especially under intense heat and high evaporation.
As water evaporates, dissolved salts remain behind and become more concentrated. Over time, the brine reaches salinity levels far higher than typical ocean water, dramatically increasing its density.
When a rock is thrown into this dense, mineral rich water, it can sink much more slowly or appear to briefly float. The unusually high salinity increases buoyant force, creating a visible demonstration of how water density directly affects whether an object sinks or stays at the surface.

THScientists once placed a transparent glass barrier inside an aquarium.
On one side was a fierce pike, and on the other side were several smaller fish swimming freely.
When the hungry pike saw the smaller fish, it immediately rushed forward to attack.
Bang. It slammed straight into the glass and bounced back.
Confused, the pike kept trying again and again, but every attempt ended the same way.
The repeated collisions injured its head and knocked off some of its scales. Eventually, the pike became frightened and retreated to a corner of the tank.
After some time, the scientists quietly removed the glass barrier. The smaller fish now swam freely throughout the aquarium, even brushing against the pike’s mouth.
But the pike never tried to eat them again.
Even though it was hungry, it refused to attack. In its mind, the invisible wall was still there.
A few days later, the pike reportedly died of starvation, surrounded by food. This phenomenon is often referred to as the Pike Effect or Pike Syndrome.
It’s often used as a metaphor for how repeated failure can create invisible limits in the mind.

COWasps are extremely sensitive to strong chemical fumes, which is why certain liquids can affect them almost instantly. When gasoline is poured into or near a wasp nest—especially ground nests—it quickly releases powerful vapors.
These fumes spread through the small tunnels and chambers inside the nest. Because wasps breathe through tiny openings along their bodies, the concentrated vapors interfere with their breathing and nervous system almost immediately. The strong fumes can overwhelm the colony, forcing many of the wasps to abandon the nest while others are unable to survive the exposure.
Another reason this works so quickly is that wasp nests are built from a thin, paper-like material made by chewing wood fibers mixed with saliva. Harsh chemicals can weaken and break down this structure, making the nest unstable and easier to destroy.
