Place a balloon over a bottle’s neck, submerge the bottle in hot water, and watch the balloon enthusiastically rise. Then, cool things down with iced water, and observe as it gracefully deflates. And guess what? You can repeat this dance many many times over!
But how does it work?
When the bottle is submerged in hot water, the air inside it expands, causing the balloon to inflate. Conversely, in cold water, the air inside contracts, leading to the balloon’s deflation. This phenomenon showcases the direct relationship between temperature and air volume. It’s a beautiful dance of physics right before your eyes!

🖊️ Take notes in class - don’t copy down what your teacher says word for word. Instead, try to summarise it in your own words. Draw diagrams, link ideas together, add in worked examples. I prefer handwriting as I get less distracted than when I’m on my laptop.

📺 Watch YT videos - this is a great way to visualise concepts, which is often needed in Science. It also is way way more fun than reading a textbook! My fave YT channels are Crash Course, Amoeba Sisters, Minute Physics.

📝 Do Quizzes - science is all about application! The best way to learn how to apply your knowledge is by practice.

⁉️ Be curious - don’t accept things at face value. Ask WHY; and be interested in learning WHY. It’s much easier to remember and so so much more satisfying when you dive deep into the science, and understand the logic behind why things happen, rather than just scratching the surface. Remain curious & you will be rewarded 😊
