Asteroid 2007 EG – roughly 140 feet (≈43 meters) wide, about the size of a large airplane or a 14-storey building – is making its closest pass to Earth today, March 15, 2026.
Key facts from NASA (via Moneycontrol & CNEOS):
Closest distance: ~1.06 million miles (≈1.7 million km) – that's about 4.4 times the average Earth-Moon distance. Plenty of safe buffer!
Speed: ~17,379 mph (≈28,000 km/h) – screaming through space!
No collision risk – classified as non-hazardous by NASA. Even if it were on a direct path (it's not), objects this size usually burn up or cause only local damage.
Group: Belongs to the Aten asteroids – near-Earth objects whose orbits cross inside Earth's path around the Sun, so we monitor them closely.
NASA's planetary defense systems (like Sentry & Scout) track thousands of such rocks daily – this one is routine and poses zero threat to anyone on Earth.

THWatch till the end. When asteroid 2024 YR4 was first discovered, it was thought the asteroid had a very small chance of impacting Earth on Dec. 22, 2032. After more observations, NASA has concluded the object poses no significant impact risk to Earth in 2032 and beyond. But at the same time the calculations says the chances of it hitting our beloved Moon has raised from zero to 4 percent. 4 percent might seem little to you but in the world of astronomy it's a high probability. Continuous observations are being kept on the asteroid. Hope the chances doesn't increase with time. In case it hits the moon it would be visible from the Earth. #space
