In 2015, Maiolino presented her new action ‘in ATTO’ with artist Sandra Lessa as special guest. The performance springs and advances thanks to the relationship between the two women, the one young and the other older. Lessa evokes a corporeal soundscape, where much is left to improvisation. Maiolono’s presence serves metaphorically as a teacher and induces the young woman to her return to life. As an epistemological position, solipsism holds that knowledge of anything outside one's own mind is unsure; the external world and other minds cannot be known and might not exist outside the mind One might say, solipsism is necessarily foundationless, for to make an appeal to logical rules or empirical evidence the solipsist would implicitly have to affirm the very thing that he purportedly refuses to believe: the reality of intersubjectively valid criteria and a public, extra-mental world. There is a temptation to say that solipsism is a false philosophical theory, but this is not quite strong or accurate enough. As a theory, it is incoherent. What makes it incoherent, above all else, is that the solipsist requires a language (that is, a sign-system) to think or to affirm his solipsistic thoughts at all The proposition "I am the only mind that exists" makes sense only to the extent that it is expressed in a public language, and the existence of such language itself implies the existence of a social context. Such a context exists for the hypothetical last survivor of a nuclear holocaust, but not for the solipsist. A non-linguistic solipsism is unthinkable and a thinkable solipsism is necessarily linguistic. Solipsism therefore presupposes the very thing that it seeks to deny. Meditation becomes full only when the meditator dissolves into the experience. As long as you feel you are the one doing meditation, you remain at the doorway. When the sense of doing drops, when the watcher merges with the watched, meditation becomes your natural state. The state of no mind is not empty in a dull way, it is alive, vibrant and overflowing with awareness. Thoughts carry duality, they divide life into good or bad, right or wrong, gain or loss. But the moment you step beyond them, a different intelligence takes over. There is a space within you where objectivity ends and pure subjectivity begins. It is the realm of pure consciousness, just being, where nothing is judged and nothing is labelled. You are simply aware, open, present, without trying to become anything other than what you already are. In this state, awareness becomes like a clear sky. Thoughts may appear like small clouds but they no longer disturb the inner vastness. You are the space in which everything rises and falls, untouched, unshaken, effortlessly awake. Once you taste this inner stillness, meditation stops being a technique and becomes your true nature.
