Your seeds wanna be in high moisture, they wanna be warm(ish), and they want good dirt. Your root roots will hold that moisture in the dome for a week!

ELWhen seedlings are tiny, water pressure matters.
A fine mister keeps the soil surface evenly moist without disturbing delicate stems or shallow roots.
A regular garden wand can:
• Displace seeds before they germinate�• Compact soil and limit airflow�• Knock over fragile seedlings�• Create uneven moisture pockets
Consistent surface moisture is CRITICAL during germination.
Bottom watering with a tray also works well. This allows moisture to move upward gently through the soil profile without disturbing the surface.
I use Fogg-It misters rated no more than 1 GPM — mine is 0.5 GPM for the gentlest pressure.
Gentle moisture now will give you stronger plants later.

THToday I chatted with Yuliya from @ydoyougarden all about seed starting, what we’re excited to grow this year, why we like starting from seed and how we each do it differently.
We kept the live to under an hour and here are some of the highlights:
- Some of the plants Yuliya mentioned growing this year are Dreadlocks Amaranth, Orlaya, Nicotiana, Mahogany Splendor Hibiscus. Plants she is looking forward to growing are Sweet Sultan and Nodding Sage (Rare Seeds)
- Steppables that Julia is having success growing from seed and Amanda is failing at growing from seed are corsican mint, irish moss and thyme. (comment STEP for a seed company that sells all 3 for great prices and a discount code)
- This year Yuliya is trying a seed starting mix she makes herself. It is made up of 3 parts coco coir and 1 part sand and a small amount of Kickass Frass plant food.
- Amanda uses sifted @foxfarmssoilandfertilizer Bush Doctor Coco Loco for seed starting and does not add any extra nutrition until a couple weeks after the seedlings germinate. At that time, Amanda feeds with Kickass Frass mixed with water.

✔️ Water lightly first to pre-moisten soil
✔️ Fertilize at ¼–½ strength

✔️ Fully dilute thicker fertilizers
Small adjustments make a big difference.
