BIAge of Attraction dropped today on Netflix. It’s a messy one where everyone is dating folks with no sense of how old anyone is. Truthfully, I had absolutely no interest in watching this but I dipped into it and 1 ep quickly turned into 2 and now I’m basically locked into this drama 😂 Sometimes you need something mindless to get down with, ya know? If you don’t want to invest in this, we have a solid week of more guilty pleasures coming up with The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and The Bachelorette around the corner. You may want to wait for those or…just watch them all because hey, life is short!

QUQuentin Tarantino originally wanted Leonardo DiCaprio to play Hans Landa, but decided the villain absolutely had to be played by a native German speaker, which eventually led to Christoph Waltz’s career-defining role. The iconic opening scene with the farmer and the hidden Jewish family was written years before the rest of the script, and Tarantino considered it the best thing he had ever written—so much so that he refused to make the movie until he was 100% confident it could be filmed perfectly. Til Schweiger, who played Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz, hated Germany’s Nazi past so much that he flat-out refused to wear a swastika on his costume off-camera—he’d rip it off the moment they weren’t filming. The infamous bar scene with the card game was so tense and long (over 20 minutes) that many audiences forgot they were watching a war movie and thought it was going to stay as a psychological drama. Another wild fact: the movie secretly broke Tarantino’s own “violence rules.” Usually, he doesn’t show children being killed on-screen, but the theater fire sequence makes it pretty clear the audience—including kids—burns alive. And here’s a meta detail: when Hitler and Goebbels laugh hysterically at Nation’s Pride, the Nazi propaganda film inside Basterds, it’s a deliberate mirror of audiences laughing at the over-the-top violence in Tarantino’s movie itself—a dark joke that the viewers and Nazis are reacting the same way.
