Many people in Canada right now are watching their work permits expire while waiting for PR draws. And when panic starts, people begin looking for shortcuts. Recently someone asked us if they should file what people online call a “dummy work permit” just to stay in Canada while waiting for Express Entry. Here is the reality most people do not understand. Immigration strategies are not tricks. They are timing decisions. Sometimes we review files where the applicant is very close to an invitation. In those situations, the strategy may focus on buying time legally while waiting for the draw. But we also review many files where people apply for random permits with no real pathway behind it. That is where problems start. IRCC officers look at: • your status history • your immigration intent • your credibility • and whether the application actually makes sense If the strategy does not align with your profile, the application can easily be refused. This is why the same idea you hear online may work for one profile, but completely fail for another. Every week we review cases where applicants applied for something without a real plan behind it.
