This summer we sat down to chat with the lovely and talented Debbie Wong (aka @beetlebob) about her journey of self discovery and artistic evolution. Growing up in Taiwan and moving to the U.S. at a young age, Debbie learned early on how to adapt to new cultures. After graduating college, she moved to New York out of a desire to prove her ability to create a life for herself outside of what she assumed to be true. In 2022, she moved back to Chicago to pursue art full-time — focusing on solely on Beetlebob for the first time in her career. This shift changed her personal process — allowing her to experiment with new mediums and explore aspects of her creativity that she had never touched before. After a year of focusing primarily on Beetlebob, she felt a significant transformation in how she felt about her work — now, confidently being able to identify herself as an artist. To her, this meant more than a title; it was about recognizing the value of her work regardless of external validation. Debbie’s work presents itself as a medium through which she processes her personal emotions and experiences, as well as complex themes that appear throughout Taiwanese culture. She hopes that through her characters and subtle quotes that others can relate to them, and in turn, feel less alone in they own journeys of discovering who they are. And hopefully, boldly and unapologetically being just that. We were so grateful to showcase her work on our display walls this summer and are still admiring the adorable wheatpaste that lives on our window outside the shop <3 Story and video by @oppungo Music by @ciaociaomarigold _____

Have you heard the term degendering fashion? In honor of pride month 🏳️‍🌈 learn more about what the term means, why it goes beyond just unisex clothing, and how the trans and nonbinary community started to degender fashion. At Tega Collective, we started with the idea of being inclusive to all genders - showcasing that through the way we designed our clothing to have a comfortable fit on a diverse range of body types and through the models we work with. It has been incredible to hear our customer’s amazing messages of support this past year and hearing how they feel seen in our clothing. We hope to continue to learn and build this brand to be gender and size inclusive and we truly appreciate your love and support along the way.
