The Realities of an Age Gap Relationship: What I’ve Learned
Today marks the anniversary of the day I met the love of my life. Here are four lessons I’ve learned being married to a man 31 years older than me:
✨ 1: People will judge you—and that’s okay.
Our relationship isn’t conventional, but then again, I’ve never been a conventional kind of person. The people who truly know us see how much Martin and I love each other, and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters. When you have the kind of love that gives you unwavering confidence and peace, outside opinions lose their weight.
✨ 2: He’s lived more life than me—and I embrace that.
There’s a reason wisdom comes with age. Martin has guided me through so many life lessons, saving me from learning things the hard way. I’ve never been more grateful to be a student of love, life, and partnership.
✨ 3: Chivalry isn’t dead—it just belongs to a different era.
Before Martin, I didn’t know people still practiced old-school romance. Not only does he pull out my chair, but if I excuse myself from the table, he stands up. Every day, he makes me feel cherished in a way I never knew was possible.
✨ 4: Mature love doesn’t fight—it listens.
Before Martin, I thought all relationships had to involve arguments. But when you’re with someone emotionally mature, conflicts become conversations. There’s no screaming, no silent treatment—just understanding, compromise, and accountability. This is the healthiest love I’ve ever known.
