🧠 ADHD and Autism often overlap ! Especially in kids and many children go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed because they don’t fit the stereotypes. Sometimes, it’s not either/or. It’s both. Here are 6 signs your child might not just have ADHD or autism… but a blend of both: 1️⃣ They’re both hyperactive and highly sensitive 👉 They crave stimulation — but get overwhelmed easily by noise, lights, or textures. 2️⃣ They talk a lot… but struggle with social rules 👉 They’re chatty and expressive, yet often feel confused or drained by social interactions. 3️⃣ They mask like a pro — and they’re exhausted by it 👉 They mirror others, overanalyze their behavior, and rarely feel fully “themselves” in groups. 4️⃣ They hyperfocus and shutdown 👉 One day they’re locked in for hours, the next, they can’t start anything — both are real. 5️⃣ They need structure — but hate being told what to do 👉 Routines help regulate their brain, but too much control makes them rebel or freeze. 6️⃣ They’ve been misread their whole life 👉 “Too much.” “Too quiet.” “Too intense.” “Too sensitive.” — when really, they’re just neurodivergent in more than one way. Kids don’t have to fit into one box. ADHD and Autism often show up together and understanding the overlap can be the missing piece to helping them thrive. If this hit home, share with another parent that needs to know this and follow for more neurodivergent truths 💕 Educational content only. ➡️ Autism signs before 2. Special interest and stimming. This is just one area that Hallie presented autistic traits in. For an autism diagnosis others factors such as social and communication would need to be present. ➡️ Back then I thought a lot of these behaviours were just cute (which they were) like loving to carry a hairbrush round. Although I had my suspicions. I was made to feel like this was typical baby/toddler behaviour. Which it can be. But not in the intensity and repetitiveness of it. Looking back at these clips now. I can see Hallie is always trying to regulate her sensory system and this need came over playing with toys. So when she was given toys she just found ways to stim with them. ➡️ Hallie was extremely hard to wean and transition onto solid foods. She would only eat the same colour purée sachet. ➡️ Hallie would always find her way to my washing pile. She loved playing with socks. And again “how cute” I thought. But actually she was self regulating. ➡️ At this age Hallie was obsessed by spinning, rocking and waving toys in her face. I told “typical” but often professionals don’t see the amount of time this is done for. ➡️ I always say if something doesn’t seem right, go with your gut and get things checked. #earlysignsofautism #autismbaby #autismtoddler #autismawareness #explore

This is my daughter as a baby and no I didn’t “see” autism back then. I saw a sweet baby who struggled sometimes. A baby who had harder days, big feelings, and did things a little differently. But I also saw things that felt normal, familiar, and within her own timeline. Most parents do. Looking back, there were indicators but hindsight is powerful. In real time, you’re not watching your child through a diagnostic lens. You’re just loving them. Children develop at different speeds, in different orders, and in different ways. And many early signs overlap with typical development. That’s why so many parents don’t notice anything “off” early on and why that’s completely okay. The earliest reliable evaluations usually happen around 18 months, when patterns become clearer. That window matters, not because something is “wrong,” but because early support can make a real difference. If you’re a parent wondering if you “missed something” you didn’t. You were doing exactly what parents do. Trust your instincts. Follow your child. And remember: development isn’t a race. #autism #asd #babies #signs #autismawareness

Autism signs 0–12 months These signs are based on my own personal experience with my child. Every child is different and seeing one or two of these signs doesn’t mean your baby is autistic — it’s all about how often and how intense they are. Some other typical signs at this age include lack of eye contact or not responding to their name, but my baby did both and still showed other signs. Autism isn’t always noticed this early. Trust your instincts and remember, you know your child best. #autism #autismawareness #earlysigns #earlyautismsigns #autismparents #neurodiversity #autismmama #autismjourney #autisminchildren #trustyourgut #everychildisdifferent #sensoryprocessing #childdevelopment #autismacceptance #autismuk #autism #asd

🧠 ADHD and autism can look completely different on the surface… Yet in many children, they quietly coexist. When a child doesn’t “fit the mold,” they’re often misunderstood instead of supported. And sometimes, it’s not a single label. It’s a layered brain. Here are 6 signs your child might be navigating both ADHD and autism traits: 1️⃣ Big energy + big sensitivity 👉 They’re constantly moving, seeking stimulation — yet small noises, tags in shirts, or bright lights can overwhelm them instantly. 2️⃣ Social… but socially confused 👉 They love talking and sharing ideas, but struggle to read cues, interrupt without meaning to, or leave interactions feeling drained. 3️⃣ High masking skills 👉 They copy peers, rehearse conversations in their head, and come home emotionally exhausted from “holding it together.” 4️⃣ Intense focus + total shutdown 👉 They can dive deep into one interest for hours — then freeze when asked to start homework or a simple task. 5️⃣ Craving routine… resisting control 👉 Structure helps them regulate — but direct demands can trigger defiance, anxiety, or avoidance. 6️⃣ Frequently mislabeled 👉 “Too dramatic.” “Too distracted.” “Too sensitive.” “Too much.” When in reality, their nervous system just works differently. Children don’t need to squeeze into one diagnostic box to deserve understanding. When we recognize overlapping traits, we respond with empathy instead of frustration. And here’s the part no one talks about… When parents don’t understand what’s really happening, yelling often becomes the default reaction — not because you’re a bad parent, but because you’re overwhelmed. If you’re ready to break that cycle, my Stop Yelling Challenge gives you practical tools to stay calm — even during meltdowns, defiance, or shutdowns. And if you want to deeply understand your child’s ADHD brain, comment “ADHD” and I’ll send you the link to my ADHD eBook 📘 You’re not alone in this. @earlyneuroco
When parents of autistic children talk about the early signs they noticed in infancy, the same responses show up every time: “All babies do that.” This is how meaningful conversations about early neurodevelopment get shut down. No parent is claiming that a baby making one face is autism. No one is saying that occasional instances of stimming are a result of autism. No one is suggesting that a baby looking to the side during bowel movements means anything. What parents are talking about are patterns. Frequency. Intensity. Persistence. In our case, these facial postures and eye movements happened multiple times a day, every day, from birth. During these episodes my baby would often become disengaged from the environment around him, so much so that he had multiple hearing screens because providers wondered if he could hear us. This is not the same thing as a baby making a face while they poop—OBVIOUSLY. When autistic adults and parents share what early signs looked like in their children, the goal is not to diagnose every baby on the internet—it is to expand awareness of the patterns that families are often told to ignore. Dismissive responses like these make parents who are actually navigating these patterns feel isolated, doubted, and dismissed. This dismissal mirrors what many families experience in medical settings. The reality is that early neurodevelopment is not defined by isolated behaviors. It’s defined by patterns across time and context. Recognizing this difference requires something these sorts of comments online often lack— critical thinking. Parents sharing their experiences are not fear mongering or trying to diagnose babies. They’re asking for space to talk about patterns that were real, persistent, and meaningful in their child’s development. When we reduce these conversations to jokes or minimization, we’re asking parents to ignore their intuition, deny their reality—and as a result, are delaying support for infants—sometimes for years. Of course you’ve seen some of these behaviors in your baby. Autistic babies are still babies. The difference is how often, how intense, and how persistent it is.
