CHIt can be challenging to home educate kids with special needs but I’ve slowly learned over the years what my kids need to help them be in a calm & peaceful state. I’ve worked so hard to find ways to inspire their beautiful minds who see the world and experience it differently than most so they can love to learn about life and all the amazing things all around us. We fished in the lake at the grandparents lake house. We found things on our nature walk like sticks, leaves, flowers and other found natural material to paint with. I let them get messy and just observed and let them do their thing. I have learned to sit back & just play WITH them. (It’s not easy by the way it takes practice) As they played I made my own little nature craft (a cute pine needle basket) As hard as it is being a mom of autistic/PDA/ADHD children… being their mom is my most favorite thing. I love my babies more than they could ever imagine & thank God for my perfect little #ivfmiracles everyday #homeschoolmama #homeeducation #homeeducationlookslikethis #channonrose I hope they realize how hard I loved them when they are older because I don’t know if they realize it now. 🥰 #autistic #pathologicaldemandavoidance #auadhd #autismspectrumdisorder #autismlooksdifferentthanyouthink

This is called stimming.
Stimming is a self-regulating behavior common in autistic kids.
It helps them manage emotions, anxiety, excitement, and sensory overload.
You stim too.
Leg shaking when you’re anxious.
Nail-biting when you’re stressed.
Twirling your hair when you’re overwhelmed.
Autistic stimming just looks different—and happens more often.
When Jay stims with his hands, I don’t interrupt him.
I don’t correct him.
I don’t make him feel different.
I sit with him.
I play with him.
I become part of his world.
Because the fastest way to teach an autistic child shame
is to treat their coping mechanism like a problem.
He doesn’t need to look typical.
He needs to feel safe.
And here—he does.

TItop-down vs bottom-up processing🤔 i still don’t know if i fully understand what top down processing is but i like the example that people use with a puzzle to explain it.
top-down processing would be looking at the picture on the box to determine where the different pieces go and building the puzzle based on the picture on the box.
bottom-up processing would be looking at all the individual puzzle pieces and then putting the picture together using the details that you see in the pieces to match what’s on the box.
lowkey still don’t know if that makes sense in my brain but that’s the closest example that i can wrap my head around. which do you feel like you do??

PU@mikkomirage • Mikko learned THE ABC SONG! 🎶 I am so proud of her 🥹❤️ She hopped in the bed with me and said “Mommy” and just started singing! Repeating music and tunes are very common among children with echolalia and nonverbal children. But it still surprises me every time! 😍
* Nonverbal Autism refers to the ability to communicate not just the ability to talk. Talking is just the act of uttering words, where communication is the intentional form of words to convey a message to someone, clear enough for them to understand what they actually mean. Nonverbal autism can be no words or minimal words. It’s about if she can structure a sentence clearly for someone to understand. For example, every time Mikko says the word “Apple” does not always mean the same thing, there is no context to why she is saying apple. Some times she wants an apple, sometimes she just wants to show me an apple, sometimes she just wants to say that she saw a car that was the same color as an apple. Etc… communication requires context.
