When a baby has classic back dominance, they tend to arch their neck and look up/backward like this. The more pronounced this pattern becomes, the harder it is for the baby to break it and activate both the front neck and the eye muscles that help them look down toward their own body. That’s why it’s important to gently guide your baby’s gaze downward toward their belly button, just like in this video. It’s a simple and effective way to prevent the backward pull in the neck muscles from becoming so strong that it’s difficult to change later on. If you’ve passed the point of prevention and need practical home exercises for back dominance, you’ll find them in my program “Develobaby – Back Arching and Flat Head.” You can also get a link sent directly by commenting ARCH below. Exercises to reduce back arching (back dominance) For babies with back dominance (arching), focus on exercises that encourage spinal flexion (curling in) and core engagement: 1. Happy baby rolls- grab both toes and both hands together and roll them side to side 2. getting hands to feet same side and opposite sides when baby is on their back. 3. side-lying play to build stability: have toys in fromt of them so they reach. 4. Bicycle kicks: Knees to chest knee moves to engage core and hip muscles. 5. Add a rolled blanket under the hip to activate core muscles and bring the toes closer to the hands. 6. Use sock rattles/links or any favourite toy can be tied to the feet to encourage toe grabbing. What to Limit: * Minimize Airplane Pose: Avoid prolonged “airplane” poses where they arch their back and lift their head/chest excessively. * Avoid Prolonged Back-Lying: If they constantly bridge, limit time on their back and focus more on tummy time and side play. Check the linked reel to learn more about back arching/back dominance.

Overstimulation can look like fussiness, turning away, arching their back, short naps, or suddenly melting down — and it’s so easy to accidentally cause it during play. Here are a few common play habits that can overwhelm little nervous systems 👇 🧸 Too Many Toys At Once Lots of toys can feel exciting, but it can actually be overwhelming. Fewer toys out at one time helps babies focus, engage for longer, and play more calmly. Toy rotation works wonders for this. 🔊 Constant Noise And Lights Bright flashing toys, background TV, music, and noisy environments all at once can overload your baby’s senses. Quiet moments and softer lighting help regulate their nervous system. 🧍‍♀️ Joining In Too Much It’s natural to want to guide play, but stepping in too often can interrupt concentration. Letting your baby explore independently helps build focus, confidence, and problem-solving skills. 📅 Too Much Structure Back-to-back activities, rigid schedules, and constant “learning time” can be a lot for little brains. Babies also need slow, unstructured play to process the world at their own pace. 😴 Ignoring Tired Cues Rubbing eyes, turning away, losing interest, or becoming fussy are signs they’ve had enough. Pushing through play when they’re tired often leads to overwhelm and meltdowns. You’re not doing anything wrong — overstimulation happens to all of us sometimes. A calmer play space can make such a difference 🤍 Which one do you think you’re most guilty of? #BabyDevelopment #GentleParenting #NewMumLife #ParentingTips #BabyPlay

📣 Is your baby constantly arching and uncomfortable?? Babies can arch their back for a lot of reasons including ⤵️ ✨ Reflux - the arching is often a response to discomfort in the digestive system ✨ Body tension - especially in the back and trunk ✨ Gas or constipation - the arching may be their way of guarding or avoiding pressure on the belly While arching can be normal at times, constant extension keeps the body in a high-alert, fight-or-flight mode. It makes calming harder, tummy time tougher, and can delay rolling or other milestones. That’s why I love this move - it gently brings the baby’s body into flexion, or that curled-up, grounded position and helps: → Stretch tight back muscles → Calm the nervous system by gently rocking → Activates their core muscles → Balance out all that extension → Prep the body for movement (like rolling!) Bonus - it’s soothing and feels great for most babies, especially when done slowly and intentionally. ❤️ Double tap if you’ll try this during play time! • • • Hi! 👋🏼 I’m Dr. Rachael, a real life mama of 2, pediatric PT & infant development expert. 1. Frequent discomfort without obvious spit-up Baby seems uncomfortable, arches, squirms, or cries during or after feeds but rarely vomits. 2. Back arching or stiffening especially during feeds or when lying flat - this is a classic silent reflux clue. 3. Gurgling, wet, or congested sounds has No cold present, but you hear throat clearing, gulping, or a wet voice/cry. Sllent relux 4. Feeding difficulties Pulling off the breast/bottle, short feeds, frequent breaks, or seeming hungry but refusing to eat. 5. Poor sleep when lying flat. Baby sleeps better upright (carrier, car seat, on you) and wakes shortly after being placed down. Reflux is not normal It is a symptom not a diagnosis. I have helped many parents unveil the main cause of their baby’s reflux with a clear plan to follow to resolve it. It is essential to have a tull assessment of your baby because reflux can look very different from one baby to the other! This is what i do in my online consultations. Feel free to check my website in my bio on how to resolve your baby’s symptoms or comment “help” to get my FREE reflux symptoms tracker📋

Your baby is not “too gassy.” Most of the time… It’s a burping technique issue. We see this daily in clinic 👇 • Crying after feed • Arching back • Pulling legs up • Milk coming out • Restless sleep Before blaming breastmilk. Before changing formula. Before cutting foods from mother’s diet. Fix this first: ✔ Burp during feeding, not just after ✔burp for 5-10 min ✔ burp in different positions ✔ Don’t overfeed Newborn digestion is immature. But your technique can make it comfortable. Small corrections. Think reflux only looks like spitting up? Nope — some of the clearest reflux signs don’t involve spit-up at all 🤯 In fact, MANY reflux babies never spit up… and are mislabelled as “colic” instead. Here are the silent signs you should never ignore: ⚠️ Frequent hiccups ⚠️ Sneezing fits ⚠️ Arching their back during/after feeds ⚠️ Struggling to sleep ⚠️ Uncomfortable lying flat ⚠️ Irritable or unsettled for “no reason” ⚠️ Only happy when held upright These aren’t “quirks”… They’re your baby saying: “Mum, something doesn’t feel right.” Reflux may be common — but that doesn’t make it normal or something you should just “wait out.” There is ALWAYS a reason behind it… and a way to help your baby feel better. 💬 Comment “SUPPORT” if you want guidance on what could be causing your baby’s symptoms and what your next steps could look like. 📩 Make sure you’re following me first so you can get my message — Insta rules 🤷🏼‍♀️ Your baby deserves calm. Rolling tip for babies who get “stuck” in extension 👶 If your baby is trying to roll but keeps arching their back and pushing into extension, they may need a little help finding flexion first. Try this: • Place your leg or a small rolled towel under their pelvis • This brings hips into flexion • Helps feet come up toward hands • Makes it easier to shift weight and initiate the roll Rolling starts from the core and pelvis — not just the shoulders 💡 Supporting flexion gives babies the body position they need to succeed (and feel the movement!). Save this to try during floor play and let me know if it helps your little one start rolling ✨ #babymilestones #tummytimetips #pediatricot #grossmotordevelopment #infantdevelopment rollingmilestone
