This is the one that changed everything. We shared it in 2024 and it was hugely popular. I reshared it in 2025 and edited the video to add more information and it went even more viral.   One video. 136,000 shares. Hundreds of thousands of interactions. And more than 130,000 new people joining this community helping PDT make it to the 1 Million mark!   And it makes sense why it landed. Discipline in toddlerhood is still one of the most misunderstood parts of parenting. Discipline does not mean fear. It does not mean punishment. It means teaching, early, clearly, and calmly.   Around 9 months, kids enter their cause-and-effect phase. What happens if I throw this? What happens if I hit What happens if I get a big reaction? To a toddler, any reaction can feel rewarding, even a loud no.   So the shift is simple, but powerful: Show more than you tell. Model the behavior. Repeat the boundary. Follow through calmly. You are not being harsh. You are being clear. And clarity helps kids feel safe.   This earned the number one spot because it helped so many parents rethink discipline in a way that actually works.   If this post brought you here, welcome. I’m really glad you’re here. Stick around, because 2026 has a lot more coming on parenting, child health, and development.   What topics do you want me to cover next? Drop them in the comments. When did you first realize boundaries mattered more than reactions?   (Original creator of the clip-DM or tag me for credit!)

Daily parenting tension is rarely about “bad behaviour.” It is usually about unclear structure. When decision muscles are weak, hesitation grows. When regulation is low, screens expand. Control alone does not solve this. Structure does. I’ve created two practical parenting sheets to help you introduce small, steady shifts at home. You can download them free. Link in bio.

One of the biggest lies parents get told is this: “If your child keeps repeating the behavior, you just need to be more consistent.” So you double down. You repeat the rule. You enforce the consequence again. You try to stay firmer, calmer, stricter. And when the behavior still happens… You start wondering if you’re the problem. Maybe you weren’t consistent enough. Maybe you weren’t firm enough. Maybe you messed it up somehow. But here’s what most parenting advice misses: A lot of the behaviors you’re stuck in cycles with aren’t happening because your child is defiant. They’re happening because your child’s nervous system and skills are still developing. When a child is overwhelmed, dysregulated, or missing a skill like emotional regulation, flexibility, or impulse control… Repeating consequences doesn’t build the skill. It just repeats the power struggle. This is why so many thoughtful, cycle-breaking moms feel exhausted and confused — because they’re trying to solve a skill problem with discipline tools designed for defiance. And it keeps them stuck in the same loop. You don’t need to be stricter. You don’t need to punish harder. You need tools that actually help your child build the skills behind the behavior. That’s exactly what I teach inside The Parenting Reset. Because when you understand what’s really driving your child’s behavior, everything changes. Comment RESET and I’ll send you the details. 💛

Look for these three signs your child is still in fight or flight: 1. Short, sharp answers 2. Avoiding eye contact 3. Immediate irritability If you see these, pause the correction. Start here instead: Connection. Food. Movement. Then you can teach. That gives them something usable. And then at the end: If you want more of these brain-based strategies, they’re inside my Home Strategy Kit.

In the moment, you just want it to stop. ㅤ The yelling. The arguing. The meltdown in aisle three. ㅤ That’s normal. ㅤ But when your only goal is relief, discipline turns into control. ㅤ And later, you’re left wondering why nothing is changing. ㅤ The struggle usually isn’t about consequences. It’s about what you’re focused on when things get hard. ㅤ If discipline keeps turning into a power struggle, this one might hit home.

If your school plans have changed -or your child is starting earlier than you expected -it’s very natural to feel the urge to “catch them up”. Standards matter. Outcomes matter. But in the early years, how children learn matters just as much as what they’re learning. You don’t need to recreate school at home. Strong foundations -play, connection, regulation, and emotional safety -are what make later learning possible. You’re not behind. You’re laying the groundwork. 🌱 And if you’d like a simple checklist on what actually supports readiness at home (without pressure or drilling), DM me and I’ll share it with you

So many parents feel like they’re falling short because things aren’t perfect. But children don’t need everything done “right.” They need to know what to expect. Familiar routines, steady responses, and consistent boundaries help them feel safe — especially when life feels unsettled. Perfection is exhausting. Predictability is calming. And that calm stays with them.

If your day feels like: Redirect. Pack it away. Intervene. Clean up. Repeat. It’s exhausting. But often, the cycle isn’t about your child “doing the wrong thing.” It’s about a strong developmental drive with nowhere appropriate to land. When those drives aren’t supported: • Throwing shows up across the living room • Carrying things shows up as everything scattered • Dumping shows up again and again • Running shows up indoors • Lining things up empties every shelf If there isn’t a safe, intentional outlet — the pattern keeps resurfacing in ways that feel chaotic. So the day becomes reactive. More reminders. More tidying. More redirecting. Instead of asking: “How do I stop this?” Try asking: “What is my child practising right now?” When behaviour has meaning, your response shifts. Less reacting. More recognising. More steadiness. If you want a simple way to decode what’s underneath behaviour — so you know what to allow and what to redirect Play Talks is the 60-Second Behaviour Decoder designed for exactly this. → Comment PLAY to learn how to decode behaviour in the moment.

Kids act differently with different adults because they learn from patterns, not rules. Children pay attention to who follows through, who gives reminders, and who lets things slide. Over time, they adjust their behavior based on what works with each person. This isn’t manipulation. It’s learning. When adults ask for the same behavior and respond the same way, kids don’t have to guess. Behavior becomes calmer and more consistent because expectations are clear. Consistency across adults builds safety — and safety supports better behavior. #parentingtools #behaviorchange #consistencyiskey #parenteducation #raisingkids

Here’s what works 👇 “Disciplining” kids doesn’t reduce meltdowns in the long run. It might stop the behavior in the moment, but it doesn’t teach the skill that was missing. Take it from me—a behavior analyst and a parent: Most meltdowns aren’t defiance. They’re communication. When kids melt down, it’s usually because they: • don’t have the words yet • can’t regulate their body • feel rushed, overwhelmed, or surprised • haven’t been taught what to do instead Discipline focuses on stopping behavior. Teaching focuses on preventing it. That’s where real change happens. If you’ve tried consequences, warnings, and “being consistent” and you’re still stuck in daily meltdowns—this isn’t a you problem. It’s a skill gap. Follow along for practical, science-backed strategies that actually reduce meltdowns 🤍 #Behavior #tantrums #meltdown #behaviorstrategies #childbehavior

If I could only give you ONE piece of advice... ⚓️✨ When parents come to me feeling “flooded” by the chaos of their home or the behavior of their kids, they’re usually looking for a massive overhaul. A new “system.” A perfect “strategy.” But the #1 thing I discuss with parents isn’t a complex behavior plan—it’s uninterrupted, one-on-one time. 🔄 In the “Inside-Out” framework, we know that behavior is communication. When a child is melting down or withdrawing, they are often signaling that their Secure Base feels shaky. One-on-one time is the ultimate Internal U-Turn. It’s the moment where we stop being a “Manager” (the one checking the to-do list and the clock) and start being a Human Being. 🧘‍♀️⚓️ Why it’s the “Gold Standard”: ✅ It moves the child from “Survival Brain” to “Smart Brain.” ✅ It models that they are worth more than their “Doing.” ✅ It builds the “Serve and Return” neural pathways that lead to lifelong resilience. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being present in the “messy middle.” Today, leave the list. Choose 10 minutes of connection. You’ve got this. 🔄✨ #InsideOutParenting #SecureBase #OneOnOneTime #GoodEnoughParenting

If whining works 40% of the time, they’ll keep whining. If screaming works 10% of the time, they’ll keep screaming. Behavior that works continues. This is not a moral issue. It’s not a personality flaw. It’s not “manipulation.” It’s a reinforcement pattern. Children repeat behaviors that reliably get them: • Attention • Access • Escape • Control And when parents respond inconsistently — sometimes giving in, sometimes yelling, sometimes ignoring — we accidentally create variable reinforcement schedules… which make behavior even stronger. That’s why it feels harder over time. Inside Behavior in Bloom, I teach you how to: • Identify exactly what is maintaining the behavior • Stop strengthening escalation cycles • Prompt the correct replacement behavior • Reinforce strategically so it actually sticks • Fade prompts without creating dependency Yelling feels like action. But replacement behavior is what actually changes the trajectory. You don’t need to become a clinician. You just need to understand the rules behavior follows. That’s what Behavior in Bloom is built to teach. 🌿
