🦟Mosquito season is already starting where I live, so I made my own simple bug spray 🌿
✅I wanted something I feel good about putting on my skin, and this takes just a few minutes to make.
*️⃣DIY Bug Spray (8 oz bottle):
• 5 oz distilled water (added last)
• 2 oz witch hazel
• 1 tsp vegetable glycerin
• 20–30 drops Rocky Mountain Bug Away essential oil blend
➡️Add everything, top with distilled water, shake well before each use ✨
🌿This is what I’ve been using instead of conventional sprays lately and it’s been so easy to throw together.

HAMosquito season is coming… so I make this DIY bug spray every spring and summer. 🌿🦟
It’s simple, takes about 30 seconds to make, and we keep a bottle by the back door for all the outside time.
Here’s the recipe I use:
2 oz witch hazel
2 oz distilled water
15 drops citronella essential oil
10 drops lavender essential oil
10 drops lemon eucalyptus essential oil
5–10 drops peppermint essential oil
Add everything to a 4 oz glass spray bottle and shake well before each use. Spray on skin or clothing before heading outside.
You can also add 1 tsp vegetable glycerin if you want it to stay on the skin a little longer.

TEDIY BUG REPELLENT
Shop the supplies in my bio
Ingredients
1/2 cup vanilla extract
1/2 cup witch hazel (or distilled water)
1–2 tablespoons avocado oil (or any THIN oil. Almond, grapeseed, etc. Don’t use coconut or castor oil. )
20–30 drops citronella essential oil
Dark glass spray jar is recommended. Store at room temp out of direct sunlight.
NOTE: if you have sensitive skin, do a spot test before applying all over, to make sure no irritation occurs.

Chemical sprays work, but many people prefer something gentler for daily use, especially indoors.
That’s where plant-based oils come in.
2️⃣ Certain essential oils naturally repel insects because of their strong aromatic compounds.
Tea Tree oil has antimicrobial properties and a sharp scent that mosquitoes dislike.
Lemongrass contains citronellal, widely known for its insect-repelling effect.
3️⃣ Peppermint and Lavender add more than just fragrance.
Peppermint has a strong menthol aroma that helps deter mosquitoes while giving a cooling feel.
Lavender is calming for us — but unpleasant for many insects — and may help soothe skin if applied properly diluted.
4️⃣ When blended correctly, this combination creates a natural protective barrier.
Many people notice:
Fewer mosquito landings
Less itching
A fresher indoor environment
A plant-based alternative to synthetic sprays
5️⃣ How to try it safely:
Mix a 7-8 drops of Tea Tree, Peppermint, Lavender, and Lemongrass essential oils into distilled water with a natural emulsifier (or dilute in a carrier oil for skin use).
Shake well before each use.
⚠️ Always dilute essential oils properly.
⚠️ Do not apply directly to skin without a carrier oil.

STHomemade natural bug spray 🌼 - if your kids are getting attacked by mozzies like mine try this with just a few simple ingredients!
The Base (Use this ratio for any size bottle)
- 2 parts water – keeps the spray light and cooling, perfect for sensitive skin and warm climates.
- 1 part witch hazel – helps the oils mix through evenly and adds a soothing, anti-inflammatory effect on the skin (especially helpful if you’ve already been bitten).
- ¼ part castor oil – gives the spray staying power so it doesn’t just evaporate off the skin. It forms a light barrier that holds the essential oils in place longer, helping the scent — and the protection — last.
Essential Oils (for every 3 parts of base)
- Lavender – calms and soothes skin, but also has mild repellent properties. It’s gentle enough for kids and helps take the itch out of any bites that sneak through.
-Citronella – the hero ingredient for repelling mozzies. Its strong lemony scent naturally deters them without needing synthetic chemicals.
Eucalyptus – adds an extra layer of protection, especially effective against sandflies and midges. It also gives that clean, fresh scent that makes the spray feel uplifting rather than heavy.
Combine your water, witch hazel, and castor oil in a spray bottle. Add the essential oils, shake and apply.
