Today, we were incredibly honoured to receive the distinguished Justice Amina Adamu-Augie, retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and Mr. Ahmed Sodangi @ahmedsodangi , Director-General of the National Gallery of Art @nganigeria to our Centre. Justice Adamu-Augie, a trailblazer in the Nigerian judiciary, known for her remarkable career spanning decades , visited us to explore the rich cultural heritage showcased at CBAAC, particularly archival, artefacts, audio -visual materials and publications from FESTAC '77. Our Director-General, @aishaak49 in company of the Centre's Management team took them on a tour of our facilities, highlighting our impressive collections from FESTAC '77. Our guests were thoroughly impressed with what they saw and experienced at the Centre. Justice Augie emphasized the importance of sharing our rich cultural heritage with the world, urging us to display more treasures widely, especially as we gear up to commemorate the 50th anniversary of FESTAC. Meanwhile Mr. Sodangi expressed interest in exploring potential collaborations between the National Gallery of Art and CBAAC to further promote African Arts and Culture. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Justice Adamu-Augie and Mr. Sodangi for their visit and unwavering support for African Arts and Culture. It was truly an honor @cbaac77 to receive one of Nigeria’s greats, Pa Emmanuel Taiwo Jegede, an 82-year-old artistic cultural icon who visited the center accompanied by his family including his son @tundejegedemusic, in-law and grandchildren. He was shocked to realise that CBAAC has 7 of his iconic sculptures and numerous paintings still in great condition since 1977. It was an emotional reunion as they strolled through the Centre, his eyes welled up with tears upon beholding some of his timeless masterpieces. He shared the inspirations behind works like IKULE ABIYAMO and FACE OF A PUBLIC HOUSE, offering a glimpse into the rich narratives that defined his artistic masterpieces The Director-General of CBAAC @aishaak49 promised to ensure that the works he has domiciled at CBAAC will be preserved and promoted for posterity through a ‘Jegede Corner’ as a permanent exhibition to commence soon. Pa Emmanuel Taiwo Jegede is a renowned Nigerian poet, storyteller, painter, printmaker, and sculptor with a career spanning continents and decades. During #FESTAC77 he participated as a member of the visual arts panel alongside other notable Black artists. He has featured in numerous global exhibitions, including ‘Afro-Caribbean Art’ in 1978 and ‘No Colour Bar: Black British Art in Action 1960-1990’ in 2015. His artistic journey is a testament to the power of African creativity and the importance of preserving our cultural heritage. Each piece carrying a nostalgic glimpse into our cultural past. God bless Pa Jegede and may he be strengthened, we are happy to see that his family are documenting his historical footprints for future generations to experience. The center is committed to preserving stories like that of Pa Jegede, a future imagined is just as important as the past experienced! This week, I was received by the Hon. Minister of Arts, Culture & Creative Economy @honhannatumusawa and her team at the @fmacce_nigeria headquarters in Abuja on an introductory visit after our recent appointments. Cc: @chalyashagaya I was also accompanied by the SSA to the President on Community Engagements (South-West Region) @moremiojudu on a tour of @c.b.a.a.c facilities in Abuja, Moremi is a former Senior Staff at the Centre with 10 years of experience working there, was happy to listen to her insights, suggestions and experiences at and for the Centre. The visit included meeting regional staff, the Archive, Library and Hall of Fame that was created by the outgoing DG, Chief Olubunmi Amao. I appreciate her support so far and intend to continue to build on her legacy to achieve the goals and objectives of #CBAAC. Appreciations to everyone @fmacce_nigeria and @c.b.a.a.c for an amazing welcome, I look forward to commencing work at the Lagos Headquarters next week. We also stopped by the J. Randle Centre. What a beauty! No pictures from me… it is a place you truly have to experience for yourself.
