CRRecently, I had a customer file a chargeback against me for the first time. When someone files a chargeback, the bank charges you the full cost of the order AND takes a fee from you (which in this case, ended up being more than the order itself!)
I really didn’t have the biggest hopes that they would rule in my favor. After all, banks want to side with their customer and I’ve heard enough horror stories from small businesses.
I really wanted to share exactly all I submitted to hopefully help other creators who may experience chargebacks! I can’t say this will always work but at least I can confirm it worked for me.

This happens all the time with Stripe, Square, PayPal. You’re not dealing with people, you’re dealing with a risk model. Hit the wrong metric and your money is gone, even if your business is legit.
Real businesses need real processors. Ones that tolerate risk, have humans you can call, and actually work with you when something goes sideways.
If you can’t accept payments, you don’t have a business.
That’s the domino effect no one warns you about.

PAEveryone loves the idea of owning a business… until the vultures show up. This wasn’t some small petty chargeback. This was almost a $1,000 loss to my business. What really makes me sick is how this whole situation happened. This person pleaded with me about how badly they needed their order the same night, saying someone else canceled on them last minute. So what did I do? I stopped everything I was doing to help them and bring their vision to life with my mother's help! Trying to save the day. Come to find out… they never even had the money to begin with. Not only did they steal from my business, but they also used someone else’s credit card, which means I’m not even the only victim here. Yet somehow the person whose card was used got their money returned… from MY account!!
So now I’ve lost:
• Time
• Product
• Money
All while they were having their extravagant event, texting me: “omg I love it, you’re absolutely the best. I’ll give you a cash tip at pickup. you’re awesome.”
And before anyone asks .. did we ever get that “cash tip”? Absolutely not.
It took me a few days to even post this because honestly I’m frustrated to even be in this situation. I go out of my way to help people, especially when they’re in a last-minute bind, and I did not deserve this.
Running a business comes with challenges, but being scammed after going out of your way to help someone is a different type of frustration.

TKA customer filed a chargeback claiming she only received one item from her order… even though 11 were shipped.
When someone files a chargeback, the bank immediately pulls the money from a small business (plus a fee) before even investigating. We tried reaching out multiple times to resolve it, but never received a response.
If there’s ever an issue with your order from a small business, please contact them first. Most of us will do everything we can to make it right.

SAThis has me lost for words. Nothing worse than being called a ‘fraudulent business’… our customers order (1st order with us) was dispatched and delivered next business day, 2.5 weeks later they issue a chargeback with their bank for no reason other than claiming we are fraudulent 😭 The worst part is, they themselves are launching a small business soon…🧐
