Follow @parentfluence for more calm-minded parenting wisdom. 🧠 Many parents believe they can shape away ADHD—but the science says something completely different. 📚 Research shows that adopted children share no measurable traits with the parents who raise them, reminding us that ADHD isn’t created by parenting. 💡 This means you don’t get the credit for your child’s challenges—and you also don’t get the blame. 👀 Instead of trying to “fix” ADHD, the real power lies in reducing the disability it creates. ⚖️ That starts with consistent rules and predictable consequences—not endless explaining or nagging. 🗣️ ADHD isn’t an information problem, so more talking doesn’t lead to more obedience. ✋ Touch them gently, get their attention, keep instructions short, and follow through immediately. ⏱️ These kids also need frequent check-ins to prevent problems before they happen. 💪 It’s not about engineering perfection—it’s about guiding them safely and clearly through their day. 🌟 Parent like a shepherd, not a sculptor, and watch your child grow in their own unique way. 🔊Speaker: Dr. Russel Barkley #ADHDTips #ParentingADHD #ChildBehavior #PositiveParenting #Neurodiversity

Who’s ready for a no-yell summer?! ☀️🙋🏼‍♀️ If you’re tired of repeating yourself 47 times only to end up yelling to get your child to *finally* listen, these 4 steps will change the game: 👣 Get close - make sure you have their full attention 🗣 Phrase it as a statement, not a question - if “no” isn’t an acceptable answer, always phrase it as a statement 🤝 Offer a choice - eliminate the power struggle with a simple choice ✅ Follow through right away - this is KEY. This shows mom means what she says when she says it (and not on the 47th time) ✨ Bonus tip: Catch ‘em doing it the first time and reinforce the heck out of it! “WOW thank you so much for listening right when I asked you!” So here’s to keeping our cool this summer, while still getting our kids to listen (because hey, you still be a powerful parent without raising your voice!) #momlife #childbehavior #toddlermom #positiveparenting #parentingtips #parenting #motherhood #summervibes #summerwithkids #yelling #listening #proactiveparenting

Let’s normalize that kids under 3 won’t always listen the first time. Listening is a learned skill. This is something that I talk about all the time as a behavior analyst who works on listening with young kids and their parents daily. There is plenty of research that shows understanding the word ‘no’ doesn’t start developing until 2.5-3.5 years old, yet it’s such a common tool many parents use. Kids will often hear the word ‘no’ but when it’s attached to actions they love, they will often continue to engage in those same actions. Here’s the other thing. Using ‘no’repeatedly can actually make that moment more exciting for young kids. Sometimes they laugh or smile not because they’re being defiant, but because the extra attention and energy can feel playful to them.  Giving clear positive alternatives they can do instead leads to better listening over time. 🔄 Instead of: “No jumping on the couch.” ✅ Try: “Feet stay on the floor. You can jump on your trampoline.” 🔄 Instead of: “Don’t touch that!” ✅ Try: “Hands off, please. You can touch your stuffed animal.” 🔄 Instead of: “No screaming!” ✅ Try: “You tell me quietly like this.” Or if you know why they are screaming tell them what to say. (You can tell me you need help.”) 🔁 Instead of: “No throwing!” ✅ Try: “You can roll the balls down the ramp. Comment NOW if you’re struggling getting your child to listen. I’ll reach out personally and give you personalized advice. #childdevelopment #childbehavior #toddlers #preschoolers #kindergarteners #newparents #parentingtips #parentinghacks #behavioranalysis #behavioranalyst #parentcoach #tantrums #parentstruggles #positiveparenting #parentingstyle #dadsofinstagram #moms

What to do when your toddler hits or throws. Have you tried any of these things? Remember, it’s developmentally normal and appropriate in most cases for your little one to explore throwing and impulsively hit. That doesn’t mean you want to allow it to continue or not help redirect that to more appropriate behavior. The sooner you start helping them with these behaviors the better things will be in the long run. Hitting can seem funny or harmless when they’re young but reinforcing that behavior can lead to worse and not so funny behaviors down the line . . . #motherhood #toddlermom #toddlerbehavior #montessorimom #childdevelopment #parenting #parentttips #childdevelopment #childbehavior #newmom #momlife

Children don’t learn behavior through lectures. They learn it through experience. They learn how to react to frustration by watching how we react to frustration. They learn how to handle mistakes by how mistakes are handled with them. This isn’t about being a perfect parent. Every parent loses their patience sometimes. Every parent has moments they wish they handled differently. That’s human. This is about awareness, not guilt. Because the way we respond in everyday moments becomes the blueprint our children use with others…and eventually, with themselves. And the empowering truth? The moment we become aware, we gain the ability to model something new. Presence matters. Repair matters. Regulation is learned through relationship. • Pause before reacting, even one breath counts • Name your emotion out loud to model regulation • Repair after hard moments (“I didn’t like how I handled that”) • Remember: calm is contagious ✨ Save this as a reminder ✨ Share & tag a parent who needs this today ✨ Follow @mar_decarlo & @parentinghealthinstitute for compassionate, nervous-system-aware parenting insight and support

Wondering if your child is craving more deep pressure sensory input?! 🙂 Here are some common signs: 👉 Seeks out small, enclosed spaces 👉 Enjoys being squeezed or squished 👉 Crashes onto cushions or into furniture 👉 Leans heavily into people or objects 👉 Pushes feet into people or furniture 👉 Loves being tossed in the air If this sounds like your kiddo, be sure to follow me @thecalmcaterpillar for tips on parenting sensory seeking children. 🐛🐛 These behaviors are ways kids self-regulate through deep pressure input—a calming sensory experience that helps their nervous system feel more organized and secure. Tips to support your sensory seeker: 👉 Create a cozy corner with the Chunk from @nuggetcomfort to provide compression in a small space 👉 Use a weighted plush toy like Flutter the 3 lb Dragonfly for comforting input 💜Comment “Flutter” for the link 💜 👉 Offer “pillow sandwiches” by gently pressing them between couch cushions 👉 Roll a therapy ball over their back, arms, or legs for calming input 👉 Let them push or pull heavy objects like laundry baskets or toy bins Try some of these and see what works best for your kiddo! 🫶🫶
