I created this time lapse video for the moms of children who have babies that need to undergo surgeries at such a young age who are scared and uncomfortable with the unknown. When we found out Gracie had this diagnosis of bilateral cleft flip, we didn't have any avenues or know anyone to get any insight from. The anxiety and worry and guilt this ride has proven that Grace has shown me GRACE. We couldn't thank Dr Menezes with @unlvplasticsurgery enough, we encourage people to leave a good review. Wait for it….I wondered for months what my older kids would say when they met my daughter who was cleft affected. I was scared they would say something about her appearance. I played this moment over and over during my pregnancy and was prepared for all sorts of answers! I knew they hadn’t seen any babies with clefts in person. We wanted them to understand that people are born with differences, and that’s ok! 💖Toddlers, always on the snack patrol! My two older kids have loved and embraced our families journey. A few things that helped prepare them for their sisters journey: 💖Reading books about clefts to them 💖Showing them photographs of babies with clefts and talking about how people are created differently. 💖Spending dedicated special time with the older kiddos because their baby sister did require some extra care when she was born. 💖Getting them involved in her cleft care. 💖Sometimes telling baby “I’m going to put you down so I can read with your sister” Even though the baby doesn’t necessarily understand the language, it helps the older kids understand you are putting them first sometimes as well! ⚠️ What other tips do you have for introducing a new baby to your family?! #cleftmom #cleft #cleftlip #cleftstrong #cleftproud #medicalmom #birthstory #facialdifferences #birthdefectsawareness #cleftlipandpalate #1in700

High palate is an aberrant anatomical term. There is a group of congenital deformations such as cleft palate existing which are classified as high palates by the medical system, term which can be debated. Then there are healthy babies. Unfortunately nowadays, many health professionals talk about « high palate » or « high arched palate » for babies as a reason for all sorts of ailments; suction difficulties, sinus, etc… The anatomical reality is very different: the palate can be entirely low (common with c-section), narrow, low and narrow on one side, low anteriorly, low/folded posteriorly, with a low line in the middle (vomer low). The palate of a baby must be flat antero-posteriorly, arched laterally and when introducing 1 and 1/2 phalanges we must feel that and be able to feel the soft palate at the back rubbing against the tip of the finger during suction. We should have no gagging and a strong latching (if not, it signs an issue on the palate shape and mostly a malposition of the first vertebra). The palate is the expression of the balance of the skull. The claimed causes are partly associated with genetics or injuries. These deformations, in most cases are linked to a traumatic birth (vacuum/forceps, short/long birth, emergency/planned c-sections, etc…) as the pressures imposed on the skull will go beyond what the bones can absorb. Planned c-section is a particular case as the palate deformation is due to the absence of remodelling of the skull which is meant to open the palate. I have also seen some palate deformations following a wrong carriage (carried face up with head left dropping backward) and lack of stimulations of the baby (often left spending a lot of time on his back). This happens as the curves of the body (spine) are not stimulated, it will lead to a collapse of the palate through the absence of tensions through the soft skull and the duramater (meninges, protecting the brain, attached inside the skull and along the spine and sacrum). #osteopathymalaysia #baby #pediatrics #kids #development
