A natural white coating is a sign of freshness. Very shiny plums are often more handled or washed.
🐉 Dragon fruit
Even, bright colour with slightly dry leaf tips usually indicates maturity. Dull colour or very fresh green tips may just need more time.
🍈 Muskmelon (Cantaloupe)
A sweet smell from the base and a heavier feel often means better ripeness and juiciness. No smell and a lighter feel usually means it’s underripe.
🍏 Custard apple
Slightly separated segments usually indicate ripeness. Tightly closed segments often need more time.
🍐 Pear
Check near the stem,not the whole fruit. Slight softness there means it’s ready. Firm, hard pears are perfectly fine ….they just ripen later.
🍒 Lychee
Pink-red, rough shells are usually fresher. Brownish or dry-looking shells are often older,though still edible.

Besides being more expensive 💸, there’s no way to know how long it’s been sitting on the shelf or how old the fruit was before it was even sliced. The date on the container usually reflects when it was packaged, not when it was harvested.
Once fruit is cut, it immediately begins oxidizing. It starts losing essential nutrients like vitamin C, antioxidants, and enzymes. 🥀 Exposure to air, light, and moisture speeds up that breakdown.
And no packaging tells you when it was actually prepped, how it was handled, or what kind of environment it sat in. The more hands that touch it, the more opportunities there are for bacterial contamination. 🧤🦠

i did a little research and discovered that washing your fruit & veg is insanely important for your health. imagine ingesting dirt, bacteria (like e. coli and salmonella), pesticide residues and wax coatings because you simple can’t see it 👀
i like to soak my veggies in vinegar and water, it’s an effective and great natural way to cleanse organics of these problem areas!
