Sergei Rachmaninoff – Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor, Op. 30 | Yunchan Lim One of the most thrilling transitions in the concerto repertoire. At the end of the second movement cadenza, the piano seems to pause for a brief moment, almost as if turning to the orchestra and asking, “are you ready?” Then suddenly, the third movement bursts in with unstoppable momentum. In an instant, the pianist pulls the entire orchestra forward, launching the music into a storm of energy and virtuosity. J. Sibelius - Violin Concerto in D major 🔥💞 | Jean Sibelius was a Finnish composer of the late Romantic and early modern periods. He is widely regarded as his country's greatest composer, and his music is often credited with having helped Finland develop a stronger national identity when the country was struggling from several attempts at Russification in the late 19th century #violin #classicalmusic #sibelius #concerto #violinist

J. Sibelius - Violin Concerto in D major 🎻🔥 | The Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47 of Jean Sibelius, originally composed in 1904 and revised in 1905, is the only concerto by Sibelius. It is symphonic in scope and included an extended cadenza for the soloist that takes on the role of the development section in the first movement #violin #classicalmusic #sibelius #concerto #violinist

This was an encore! The amazing Julia Fischer (@jfclubofficial) delivers an exquisite interpretation of the Finale from Hindemith’s Sonata for Solo Violin, Op. 11, No. 6. For those new to Hindemith, he was a 20th-century German composer who sought to bridge the gap between rigorous baroque structures and modern expression. Fischer takes this technical showpiece and turns it into something deeply enticing. Hindemith’s writing for solo violin can easily sound like a dry exercise in music theory, but Fischer prevents the melody from being drowned by the blizzard of smaller notes. I didn’t put the section right before with barriolages but her phrasing is superb, leading to this frenzied development, full of double stops. An exemplary example of bow dynamics and pressure! Born in Munich in 1983, Julia Fischer was taught by the legendary teacher Ana Chumachenco. A major milestone in her early career was winning the Yehudi Menuhin International Competition in 1995 at the age of 11, followed by the Eurovision Young Musicians title just a year later. She is a pianist as well as a violinist. In a famous 2008 concert, she performed as the soloist in a Saint-Saëns violin concerto and a Grieg piano concerto on the same evening! Interestingly, she had the highest piano accompaniment standards because from age 13 she played a lot of recitals with Jean Yves Thibaudet and then Christoph Eschenbach, both piano titans. After watching a couple of interviews, she reveals a deeply intelligent and audience-focused approach to her massive repertoire, yet remains remarkably down-to-earth. While she is a fixture of the global stage, she is equally proud of her life in Munich, where she balances a busy performing schedule with raising her two children and mentoring the next generation of players through projects like her Kindersinfoniker. If you want to see more of her, I like her Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 2 with the London Philharmonic Orchestra in 2022 on Youtube! The “I love you” was so sweet! Let’s stop being so hard on ourselves because if a legend like Kyung Wha Chung can miss the first note of a piece, we can definitely survive our own mistakes. In 2018 Seoul, two of South Korea’s biggest musical icons took the stage to perform Elgar’s Salut d’amour, Op. 12. Right at the start, Chung catches a note that isn’t quite right and immediately stops, playfully saying “Again, again!” The audience erupts in applause, and a fan even shouts “I love you,” which makes this encore even more beautiful. After decades on the world stage, Kyung Wha Chung is a true pioneer, often credited as one of the first Asian violinists to reach the absolute top tier of the international solo circuit. Born in 1948, she was a child prodigy who moved to New York to study with the legendary Ivan Galamian at Juilliard. Her big break came in 1967 when she shared the first prize at the Leventritt Competition with Pinchas Zukerman. Despite a serious finger injury that sidelined her for years, she made a triumphant comeback, proving that resilience is just as important as talent. Accompanying her is Seong-Jin Cho, winner of the 17th International Chopin Piano Competition in 2015, becoming the first South Korean to ever take home the gold. Known for his poetic sensitivity and crystalline technique, Cho provides the perfect, supportive backdrop for Chung, navigating the “reset” with the grace and poise that has made him one of the most sought-after pianists of his generation. This moment in Seoul wasn’t a fail, but a reminder to give yourself some grace. Hell, let’s make more mistakes, the joy of the music is what matters most. #musiqueclassique #mozart #concerto #violin

RIP MAESTRA. Teared up in seconds 😭 This was the 2014 retirement anniversary concert of Namyun Kim (1949–2023). The student orchestra of Suwon, directed by pianist Daejin Kim played a surprise encore of “My Way” in her honor. Kim was one of the most esteemed and famed violinist and teacher in Korea. She was a standout at Juilliard, where she studied alongside Shlomo Mintz with whom she’ll be friends. She studied under Ivan Galamian, the same teacher as Zukerman or Perlman. She then had a prolific worldwide career during an era asian females were barely under the spotlight. Later, she would often be part of the jury for the Tchaikovsky Competition, the Queen Elisabeth Competition or the Hannover International Violin Competition. She passed away in 2023, and is remembered dearly as a beloved professor, who’d care about if her students slept well or ate well. Her students include international stars like Shin Zia, Clara-Jumi Kang, and Lim Ji-young. She is survived by beautiful recordings where her depth and mastery transpire. A genius she always credited to curiosity, as she mentioned in 2022: “I always tell my students to listen to other people, to try and meet other teachers, to get advice. To have an open mind. To listen to other styles, to get different ideas. Because in Korea, they only study with me, so they need more experience! Whether they win a prize doesn’t matter. First, second, third, fourth, they are all the same.” And so, this performance of “My Way” is such a beautiful document of a woman who did, indeed, do it her way—transforming South Korea into a global powerhouse of classical music in the process. #musicaclassica #concerto #violino
