Current Transformer CT is a device used to reduce high current to a small current for measurement and protection. Example: If line current = 100 A CT output = 1 A So meters and relays can safely measure the current. Main purposes: Measurement – Ammeter, energy meter, TVM, PQM, BCU,SCADA Protection – Relay protection (overcurrent, differential, etc.) Working Principle CT works on Electromagnetic Induction (same as transformer). Steps: * Current flows in primary conductor * Magnetic field created in core * This induces current in secondary winding * Secondary current is proportional to primary current Formula: Pri Current/ Sec Current = Sec turns/Pri turns Where: Ip = Primary current Is = Secondary current Np = Primary turns Ns = Secondary turns CT secondary should never be open-circuited when primary is energized. If open: Very high voltage will develop CT may get damaged Dangerous to humans ⚠️ So secondary is always: Shorted or connected to load (relay/meter) Types of CT: * Wound type CT * Bar type CT * Ring / Window type CT #currenttransformer #electricalengineering

To reduce multiple subsystems into a single block, the transfer functions of parallel systems are added, and cascaded (series) systems are multiplied. #electrical_engineer_0612 The Ferranti Effect is a phenomenon in long AC transmission lines where the receiving-end voltage becomes higher than the sending-end voltage, especially when the line is lightly loaded or open-circuited. 🔍 Why does it happen? In long transmission lines: The line has capacitance between conductors and ground. When the load is low or zero, this capacitance draws a charging current. This current leads to a voltage rise along the line due to the interaction with line inductance. 👉 As a result, voltage increases toward the receiving end instead of dropping (which is the usual expectation). ⚡ Key Points Occurs mainly in long transmission lines (typically > 150 km). More noticeable at high voltages. Happens under light load or no-load conditions. It is a result of the line’s distributed capacitance. 📈 Simple Explanation Think of the transmission line like a long capacitor: When lightly loaded → it stores energy. This stored energy pushes voltage up at the receiving end. ⚠️ Effects / Problems Overvoltage at receiving end Insulation stress Possible damage to equipment 🛠️ How it is controlled Using shunt reactors (to absorb excess reactive power) Operating the line with proper loading
