3 deadbug variations to add to your core exercises! For all of these, you will want to INHALE when your arms and legs are up & EXHALE when you lower an arm/leg. Keep your spine & pelvis stable as you move your arms & legs! 1️⃣ Modified deadbug with ball squeeze at the top: get your core firing with this one! This variation is great for people who: have difficulty or pain with traditional dead bugs, or need to get their core firing before doing traditional dead bugs. Add in the small ball squeeze when you lower your leg. Before progressing to the traditional deadbug, try it with a straight leg first! 2️⃣ Traditional deadbug: what everyone knows as the deadbug! This is a classic exercise to get the core engaged. Time your breath with movement, and get your arms/legs moving in alternating coordination patterns (which we do every day when we walk). 3️⃣ Deadbug with stability ball: if you’ve mastered the traditional variation and are wondering “what’s next?” This is for you! Grab a large enough exercise ball and keep it stable while alternating your arms & legs. Remember to pay attention to your breath. There are so many deadbug variations, but the most important part is HOW you do them! 5 Deadbug Variations to Level Up Your Core Stability ⬇️ Deadbugs are underrated when it comes to building real core control — especially for athletes. These 5 variations challenge your coordination, stability, and anti-extension strength in different planes: 1️⃣ Contralateral Deadbug Contralateral movements emphasize cross-body coordination and anti-rotational stability, which is huge for athletic movement and functional strength. They train your core to resist movement, which is more relevant in sport and CrossFit than just crunching or flexing. 2️⃣ Wall Deadbug Wake up and activate that strong overhead position and the ability to keep your spine neutral! 3️⃣ Anti-Rotational Deadbug Works the same muscles as the contralateral with arms extended (these are challenging!) 4️⃣ Overhead Banded Deadbug Activate lats and core while waking up your transverse abdominis (deep core muscles) AND working on stability 5️⃣ Deadbug with Press A fun movement to work on building a strong core while also getting in some pressing and stability work For every movement perform 2-3 rounds 10-20 reps making sure that: ✔️Small of the back stays on the ground ✔️You can go SLOW (this is NOT a movement you want to rush through) ✔️You maintain control Perform these movements as warm-ups or core finishers, get in the habit of doing some deadbug variation EVERY DAY and get ready to see incredible results in core strength (including helping with things like peeing your pants while doing double unders!) 🔥Did you know we have a 10 week core program? I have been playing around with some rolling patterns that are based on the Dead Bug & Turkish Get Up (TGU). Here are 2 variations: A) This variation uses an ipsilateral (same side) elbow to thigh hold to roll from supine to a Forearm Side Plank, initiated by an arm pull on the floor to transition to the forearm, similar to the TGU. B) This variation uses a contralateral (opposite side) elbow to thigh hold to roll from supine to a Forearm Copenhagen Plank, initiated by an arm pull on the floor to transition to the forearm, similar to the TGU.
