KAsometimes skipping church isn’t walking away from God.
sometimes it’s walking away from the version of faith that exhausted you anddd that doesn’t automatically mean you’re “spiritually backsliding”
it might mean you’re LISTENING.
listening to your body and your limits, listening to the parts of you that have been bracing for a long time.
if you feel relief from not attending church, that’s not rebellious. EVERYONE should be allowed to take a break.
sometimes it’s your nervous system finally exhaling after years of trying to prove something.
if you were taught that missing church meant you were drifting from God, you not going to church can feel loaded. even if your body feels lighter. even if your nervous system feels relieved.
you wake up and expect guilt, but what you feel instead is quiet, and that quiet unsettles you and now you have pressure to find something to “replace” it.
because what does that “mean?”
because you were taught that closeness to God should feel like commitment, sacrifice, discipline. that showing up no matter what was proof of “devotion.”
so if staying home feels like relief, you start to question yourself.
am I losing my faith?
am I “walking away?”
but what if what you were stepping away from wasn’t God at all??
what if it was pressure to perform.
pressure to serve and constantly put others over yourself.
pressure to override your body in the name of “obedience” or making someone else happy.
what if your body actually wasn’t rebelling against faith?
what if it was responding to an environment that it no longer experienced as safe..?
sometimes skipping church is not a theological statement. it’s a nervous system one. it doesn’t mean you don’t love God.
it might mean you’re learning how to love him without abandoning yourself and you may just discover what you’ve actually needed all along, to begin with.
