Once the tree is cleaned from branches, it’s time to start cutting the log.
Most of you voted for Free Cutting, so I explored different ways to implement it in the game.
The first step was real-time mesh cutting.
Right now the system can split a log mesh into two pieces based on the cutting plane.
It’s working… but this is only the beginning. There’s still a lot to improve.

FEBillboards have been around since the early days of 3D games.
When hardware couldn’t afford real geometry, devs learned how to fake depth with planes and smart textures.
Fast forward to today: GPUs are stronger, techniques are fancier… but foliage is still expensive.
Thousands of leaves, overdraw, shadows, lighting.
That’s why billboards still matter.
They trade geometry for pixels, and when used at the right distance, the illusion is good enough — and the performance gain is huge.
Sometimes new tech can’t beat old genius solutions.
