Inside the donation-based museum collection, you flip on the lights yourself and step into a world dedicated to the simplest things we usually overlook.💡 Founded by artist Clare Dolan, it’s a self-service museum built around one unique idea: that everyday objects deserve to be seen, studied, and celebrated.
The toothbrush. The safety pin. The burnt match. The pencil stub. Knots. Dissection scissors. Clocks. Stains. 👁️ Things we touch a hundred times and never really see.
The exhibits change each year, each one arranged with humor, care, and a quiet kind of reverence. There’s no staff hovering, just shelves of familiar objects displayed like artifacts from our shared daily lives.
You explore at your own pace. You turn off the lights when you leave. And if you love spots like this, Vermont has plenty more where wonder hides in the ordinary, like the @madsonianmususm in Waitsfield, celebrating the beauty of everyday design from toys to typewriters to toasters.

COWhat a difference a day makes, some of you may have already seen a reel from me featuring the Bowes Museum from yesterday, the weather was terrible and the reel wasn’t the best, so when we woke up in Barnard Castle this morning, and I saw that it was a beautiful morning I just had to go back to the museum, and I’m much happier with the results.

This reel shows the incredible Bowes Museum, yes I know it’s not a country house, so I am again going off theme for my feed, but I love all historic buildings, and this one takes your breath away, and never fails to impress, so I thought I’d feature it.

This purpose built Art museum opened in 1892, it was designed by Jules Peliechet for John Edward Watson, for John Bowes and his wife Josephine Benoit Coffin Chevalier, to house their impressive art collection, which includes a famous silver automaton Swan.

'Museum at your doorstep' is conducted by @vismuseum.blr (a unit of @ncsm_goi ) which involves science shows (liquid nitrogen, flame thrower, chemical luminescence, etc), mobile exhibits, sky observation using telescope - including sun spots, moon, jupiter, etc.
