It’s the hidden reason why so many of us feel unmotivated and stuck… From compulsive habits, to burnout and constant distraction - It’s at the root of a lot of behaviours we struggle to understand. Today’s guest is Dr Anne Lembke, someone who I spoke to last year. The first time we spoke, we focused on how alcohol affects the brain. This time, we look at how short-form content and constant stimulation are reshaping dopamine in everyday life. Dr Anna is a psychiatrist and professor at Stanford, where she treats patients and studies addiction. She’s also sold millions of copies of Dopamine Nation, a book that helped a lot of people make sense of habits they couldn’t explain in a world of constant stimulation. So I asked: - Why does too much pleasure eventually lead to numbness? - Why does modern life make relapse more likely? - How long does it really take for the brain to rebalance? - Why does willpower alone often fail? - What actually helps people restore balance? Dopamine regulation is something a lot of people are quietly struggling with, and Dr Anna explains what’s happening in the brain and how people can begin restoring balance over time.
