PAAfter my last post on PACE and GUIDE went viral, the question I got over and over was: “What if we don’t qualify for those yet, but we still need help?”
This is the answer. Most people are out here Googling in the dark at 2 AM, not realizing there is a federally mandated office in every single county designed to do the navigation for you.
It’s called the Area Agency on Aging (AAA).
Think of them as the “Project Managers” for aging. They aren’t just a website; they are a network of specialists who know exactly what resources are available in your specific neighborhood.
What they can help you navigate:
• Respite Care: Finding and funding temporary help so YOU can take a break.
• Legal Aid: Connecting you with experts for Power of Attorney and healthcare directives.
• In-Home Support: From meal deliveries to light housekeeping.
• Caregiver Training: Because none of us were born knowing how to do this.
The catch? You have to be the one to open the door. These programs aren’t always “advertised,” and some have waiting lists. Don’t wait for a crisis to get on their radar.
