DRSouth America’s shocking⚡️ giant the Electric eel. Dispite their name electric eels are not true eels at all, but actually a species of knife fish. Capable of reaching, massive lengths of up to EIGHT FEET long and weigh in over forty five pounds!!! Feeding on fish, amphibians, mammals, and crustaceans, they will pray on just about anything under the sun, but to get it, they need to summon the power of lightning!!! Like their name infers Electric eels are one of few unique species of animals that can generate and disperse immense powers of electricity. Capable of filling its prey or potential predators with a shocking 860 volts temporarily paralyzing or even killing its victims this is one fish you definitely wouldn’t want to mess around with, so it’s a good thing they are easy to spot. Above this in the video you can see the electric eel swim right up to the surface, and this is exactly how you spot them in the wild every ten minutes or so you will see that breach and even hear a little gulp. This behavior is actually them breathing the air…. That’s right even though they’re fish they are what’s known as obligate air breathers, which means they depend on the bulk of their oxygen to come from the atmosphere and not so much from the water with their gills.
