DRM (Digital Rights Management) Netflix uses DRM systems like: • Widevine (Android, Chrome) • FairPlay (Apple devices) • PlayReady (Windows) These systems encrypt the video stream, so only authorized apps/devices can decode and display it. ⸻ 🖥️ 2. Secure Video Pipeline (Hardware-Level Protection) On modern devices: • Video is decoded inside a secure hardware zone • The OS marks the video as “protected content” • Screenshot & screen-recording APIs are blocked at OS level 📵 Result → Black screen instead of video. ⸻ 🚫 3. OS-Level Screenshot Blocking Apps like Netflix set special flags: • Android → FLAG_SECURE • iOS → Protected AVPlayer layers This tells the OS: “If someone tries to capture this screen — block it.” ⸻ 🎥 4. HDCP (For External Displays) When using HDMI / screen mirroring: • Netflix checks HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) • If the display or cable isn’t trusted → playback is blocked That’s why cheap capture cards fail ❌ ⸻ ⚖️ 5.
